CONTEXT – IsraAID is an Israel-based non-governmental organization that was founded in 2001 and has since its inception worked in emergency and long-term development settings in over 55 countries. IsraAID’s mission is to support people affected by humanitarian crises by partnering with local communities around the world to provide urgent aid, assist recovery, and reduce the risk of future disasters. IsraAID has operates in Mozambique since 2019.

Duties and Responsibilities

IsraAID searches for a professional with experience in the field of Safety and Security (SAS), with work records in delivering and facilitating trainings, who can work on both remote and face-to-face supervision. The position requires a be a “hands-on-person”, focused on delivering results.

THE POSITION REQUIRES THE INCUMBENT TO DELIVER REGULAR WORK ROUTINES IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE, WRITE/READ MESSAGES AND REPORTS AND HOLD ONLINE MEETINGS ON A WEEKLY BASIS WITH SENIOR HEADQUARTERS AND COUNTRY OFFICE LEVEL STAFF.

  • Supports and informs the Country Director in all safety and security matters.
  • Support the country office in compliance with HQ safety and security policies.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the HQ safety and security manager.
  • Monitor news and media reports and provide updates on environmental hazards and security risks to the country director and country security group (Whatsapp).
  • Update and maintain the annual security plans.
  • Conduct risk assessments for existing and new projects, including mitigation plans and strategies.
  • Schedule and implement drills, trainings, and Information sessions for the staff on safety and security matters.
  • Lead seasonal preparedness efforts.
  • Stock and maintain emergency shelter space.
  • Identify and secure shelter locations to support projects’ contingency plans.
  • Manage inventory of all safety and security related equipment.
  • Representation and organizational learning.
  • Respond In person to staff incidents and emergencies, providing assistance and support.
  • Manage and document incidents in the field affecting staff.
  • Attend NGO security meetings, groups, and forums, reporting to CD and HQ security manager on relevant topics.
  • Accompany missions to the field when and where required.
  • Develop local network of contacts, including but not limited to: Law enforcement, military, INGO security focal points, local security contractors.
  • Assessment, planning, and project development
  • Adapt and apply assessment questionnaires and carry out assessments in SAS;
  • Train assessment teams to carry out assessments and analyze findings in order to develop or revise plans of action;
  • Perform vehicle fleet administration and keep track of vehicles on the move.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Country Director or by the Global SAS Manager.

Other

  • Must have proficient command of English language.
  • Maintain good socio-professional relationships with national and international partners;
  • Attend training when required;
  • Attend team meetings and give qualitative inputs;
  • Actively participate in cluster meetings;
  • Be flexible in performing his/her duties to ensure that the team are getting good quality advices;
  • Essential knowledge, experience, and competencies/skills
  • Significant experience in an equivalent position in a development or humanitarian context<
  • Knowledge of relevant guidelines and standards on SAS;
  • Ability to work flexibly with challenging and changing environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, and pro-activity in engaging in tasks that need to be done;
  • Proven ability to work independently in a changing environment;
  • Team player with excellent communication skills and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Able to work in a high-stress environment.
