Purpose of Position:

Provide technical support for the successful implementation of NRM and related components of the Carbon Asset Management (CAM) activities across the designated project Counties as well as ensure smooth coordination of the overall project implementation by all partners, coordinating with other project components and working with the Programme Director towards the success of the project.

Major Responsibilities:

Project Planning, Coordination and Implementation (40%)

  • Responsible for the coordination of all Natural Resource Management activities and approaches implemented by partners in project
  • Organize training for the partners, selected groups and other stakeholders on the various recommended focal landscape restoration approached (Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration, enrichment tree planting, Climate smart agriculture, soil and water conservation, advocacy and policy influence etc).
  • Liaise with partners to prepare guiding material on key and contextual technical approaches for the project including Natural Resource Management NRM, sustainable Land management (SLM), Environment and climate change (ECC).
  • Contribute to effective and timely implementation of all NRM and ecosystem restoration field level interventions and initiatives with partners.
  • Ensure that all NRM initiatives within the projects area of influence meet or exceed planned outcomes and are implemented in full compliance with the project guidelines
  • In collaboration with the programme Finance Manager, monitor and support the timely and appropriate utilization of budgeted resources for all NRM related project interventions.
  • Develop and provide appropriate reporting tools and templates to partner organizations; ensure reporting on NRM interventions is properly streamlined and integrated with the overall programme report.
  • Attend the regular weekly and monthly planning meetings as called upon.

Quality Assurance – Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation (30%)

  • Liaise with consortium partners, the Programme Director, MEAL Coordinator, Livelihoods & Resilience Coordinator, and Gender Coordinator to ensure that appropriate controls, monitoring and evaluation tools are in place and being utilized in a timely manner in all NRM monitoring activities.
  • Supervise and monitor project interventions in strict adherence to CAM project design requirements, Kenya government regulations and other agreed standards.
  • Develop monitoring plan for NRM interventions with partners and other stakeholders agreeing on the required standards for monitoring, with support from the MEAL Coordinator.
  • Ensure project data is captured, validated and updated on approved programme M&E system.
  • Coordinate with the Programe Director and partners to effectively support the project to carry out all measurements, baselines, assessments, designs, monitoring and evaluations – in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
  • In Liaison with partner organization project officers and the Finance Director, track project implementation expenditure levels and value for money on all NRM, environment and climate action activities.
  • Compile the necessary monthly, quarterly and annual reports and submit to the Programme Director.
  • Regularly document success stories / innovation for sharing across the partnership

Advocacy, Engagement, Networking and Partnerships (15%)

  • Develop context specific electronic and live media communications on NRM activities.
  • Gather and provide quality feedback and data to be used to develop technical papers and recommendations on key issues for external engagement with decision makers.
  • Participate in the Annual County Government’s Planning and Budgeting process to influence environment, climate and NRM policy and planning for ecosystem restoration.
  • Support the programme to build partnerships with Community, relevant Government authorities, research institutions, media and other stakeholders on promoting sustainable NRM and landscape restoration.
  • Participate in Sector Technical Working groups and forums at national and county levels as will be appropriate.
  • Ensure that programme stakeholders and partners are kept informed of all the Government laws and policies in respect to NRM and any changes to government laws, policies and budgets that may affect implementation of the programme.
  • Work with the other coordinators in the programme secretariat to ensure integration of messages and communication for purposes of outreach.

Capacity Building (15%)

  • Build the capacity of partners to enable them effectively intervene in NRM, environment and climate change.
  • Ensure integration of NRM interventions with other programme activities
  • Work with partners on developing community sensitization and information material, protocols and approaches for NRM interventions in their project contexts
  • Establish specific capacity building methodologies for effective delivery & sustainability of project interventions
  • Together with partners, conduct regular reflection and learning events;
  • Facilitate and coordinate farmers NRM exposure tours across programme counties.

Others (5%)

  • Support and coordinate other relevant initiatives by partners in the spirit of integration
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Qulaification,Knowledge and Skills for the role

  • Degree in Forestry, Agroforestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Conservation or a closely related field.
  • At least five years on job experience working with farmers, communities and multiple stakeholders on a combination of any of the following fields Forestry, Agroforestry, Natural Resource Management, Landscape Restoration and Management Climate Smart Agriculture.
  • Multi-stakeholder coordination experience is required; experience working in project consortia implementing environment and NRM projects is a plus.
  • Additional relevant on-job training on landscape governance or landscape management practices, climate smart agriculture and carbon development mechanisms is highly desired.
  • Experience working with farmers and local organizations on carbon related tree planting and ecosystem restoration activities is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge on GESI with additional training or skills in gender mainstreaming / integration is an added advantage
  • Membership to professional body is desirable (FSK, EIK etc)
  • Experience engaging with government authorities at county and national levels.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills with good grasp of English and Kiswahili (both oral and written).
