SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, since more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI’s interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, the SI teams – 3200 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at HQ, and a few volunteers – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultural norms.

About the mission

SI has been present in Nigeria for 10 years – since 2016 in Northeast Nigeria and 2020 in the Northwest.
SI’s coordination office is located in Abuja. With a regional base in Northeast and Northwest with NW having a sub office in Anka.
In the Northeast, SI operates in 3 LGAs of Borno state (Monguno, Ngala and Konduga). SI has also intervened in other LGAs includingJere, Maiduguri MMC, Dikwa, Gwoza and Bama in the recent past. In the Northwest, SI intervenes in 5 LGAs of Zamfara state: Gusau, Anka, Talata Mafara, Kebbi and Kaura Namoda.

The annual volume of the Nigeria mission is around 5 million USD.
SI’s mission in Nigeria responds to the critical needs of populations affected by conflict, natural disasters and epidemics in the North East and North West of the country, through its traditional sectors of intervention, namely WASH, FSL and Shelter. SI is currently funded by a number of institutional donors, including ECHO, CDCS, INTPA and NHF, with the possibility of further funding depending on the development of the mission’s projects.
The mission also relies on a partnership approach, localization and good coordination to strengthen its intervention in the country. It works closely with two local partners and participates actively in existing coordination platforms.

The Logistics Coordinator will directly supervise the Deputy Logistics Coordinator & ITC Responsible with technical management of the Logistics Managers in NE&NW.
Under the direct management of the Country Director, She/he will closely work with other departmens both in Coordination, Northeast, and Northwest

About the job

General objective:

Coordinate the logistic aspects of the mission, country-wide, under the direct management of the Country Director

The main challenges:

Dynamic to initiate with changes in the staffing / All sub-bases are accessible but with limited access, which implies remote management most of the time

Priorities for the 2/3 first months:

– Improve the logistic team capacities at base level
– Develop procurement plans and obtain validation from HQ for new projects
– Support the opening of a new base in Northwest
– Conduct a general review with the program managers on the progress of procurement and update the procurement schedule and delivery deadlines.
– Finalise the relocation of the coordination to Abuja office

Security constraints:

No walking policy everywhere in the country / Security situation calm in Abuja, level 2 (out of 5), Maiduguri is level 3 and level 4 inother bases/sub-bases.

Your profile

DIPLOMAS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor or masters in a related degree: Logistics, Transport, Warehousing, IT, Supply Chain, Management

Experience in the humanitarian sector : 3 – 4 years

Experience on a similar position : 3 – 4 years

SKILLS

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

1. Good command of Logistics Procedures and donor rules, regulations and policies governing compliance/regualtory management of procurement

2. Problem solving and analytical skills with ability to assess challenges and recommend solutions

3. Strong management, training and capacity building skills

4. Experience in management of budgets and ability to prepare timely, complete and accurate reports

5. Previous experience in Nigeria or in a complex emergency is an asset.

6. Previous experiences with Solidarités International on support positions are strongly appreciated.

TRANSVERSAL SKILLS

1. Computer literacy with very good command of MS Office Suite and especially high proficiency in Excel to handle and develops auditing tools with the headquarters

Adaptability, flexibility and good resistance to stress

2. Good knowledge of the humanitarian project cycle management; Commitment to the fundamental principles of SI’s charter and ethics

3. Excellent communication, prioritization and organizational skills; ability to multi-task; Proactive, takes initiatives, flexible, Team player, capacity to give a positive dynamic to a young team whilst being fully part of the mission’s management team

4. Stress management skills: the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, with peaks of heavy workload

5. Ability to provide training and capacity building

SI will offer you

A salaried position:
According to experience, starting from EUR 2860 gross per month (2600 EUR base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of USD 750.

SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate’s country of origin and the place of assignment.

Breaks: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with a USD 850 break allowance, allocated by Sl). To these breaks periods, SI grants one (1) additional rest day per month worked.

Insurance package: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which refunds all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.

LIVING CONDITIONS:

The Logistics Coordinator will be based in Abuja with frequent field visit expected in the regional offices (Maiduguri and potentially Gusau or Sokoto)
In Abuja, living condition are good and all commodities can be found (supermarket, restautant, cinema, sport centers …)
At base level, (maiduguri or Gusau), the bases offers a comfortable environment, in spite of limited movements outside of the compound for security reasons. The Guest House offers good living conditions, with private bedroom and bathroom and shared & comfortable common spaces. Electricity and internet are available at the office and at the GH at all times. Ping pong, pool table and some gym equipment are available in the GH in Maiduguri. All essential good (food, hygiene etc..) can be bought locally in the small shops around the office, or in the pre-validated supermarket. Visits to other NGOs are possible, as well as some pre-validated places (hotel and restaurants).
Occasional field visit in NW and NE sub bases, to ensure a correct overview depedning on the security context and validation.
