The Nigeria program, established in 2018, is headquartered in Minna, Niger state. We’re currently serving over 100,000 unique farmers across the state via our inputs on credit ‘Core’ program, inputs on cash ‘Retail’ program, and have a free tree seedling distribution ‘Agroforestry’ program. About the Role

Seeking an experienced professional with over 3 years of experience managing agroforestry or other field-based rural/development projects, with great team and project management skills, to help us reach more farmers & serve them with tree products.

Responsibilities

Delivery of Program KPI

  • Support the successful execution of Trees field operations at state/regional level, which includes field team set up, nursery set up and management, seedling production and sales, farmer enrolment, farmer adoption and post distribution activities with the target of 100% timely completion across all.
  • Support the successful delivery of other program division targets as assigned to ensure OAF is serving farmers holistically across multiple business units.

Team Management

  • State-wide field team management, including field directors, assistant field directors, field managers, field assistants (and/or other casuals engaged at the site and nursery level), and nursery managers with a responsibility to serve a minimum of 160,000 farmers annually.
  • Train, motivate, mentor, and evaluate team members through direct management, as in the case of FDs/AFDs and/or indirect management of field managers to drive program goals across the state.

Talent Management

  • Conduct regular skills gap assessments in collaboration with L&D to identify team training needs for trees, either at the state, regional or program-wide level.
  • Lead annual recruitment campaigns for open roles.

Research and Program Execution

  • Undertake independent stretch projects that contribute to the program’s success as specified by the program leadership.
  • Liaise with collaborators from other farmer-facing and support departments to support innovations and new approaches that will help OAF serve more farmers in better/more sustainable ways

Training and meetings

  • Attend all relevant Programs Division and Trees department events as required, including trainings and meetings.
  • Support and participate regularly in district-level meetings and occasionally pod-level meetings to build fluency of field-level challenges, farmer insights and execution approaches.

  • Seeking an experienced professional with over 3+ years of experience managing agroforestry or other field-based rural/development projects.
  • Data analysis & drawing insights from raw data: Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze raw data for decision-making.
  • Report writing: Prepare comprehensive reports that clearly communicate findings, recommendations, and performance metrics.
  • Budgeting and budget management: Develop, monitor, and manage budgets to ensure financial efficiency and alignment with organizational goals
  • Attention to detail: Maintain accuracy and precision in all aspects of your work.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • English required; proficiency in Hausa is an added advantage

One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi.

Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2015, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 300% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

One Acre Fund offers smallholder farmers an asset-based loan that includes: 1) distribution of seeds and fertilizer; 2) financing for farm inputs; 3) training on agriculture techniques; and 4) market facilitation to maximize profits. Each service bundle is around US$80 in value and includes crop insurance to mitigate the risks of drought and disease.

To receive the One Acre Fund loan and training, farmers must join a village group that is supported by a local One Acre Fund field officer. Field officers meet regularly with the farmer groups to coordinate delivery of farm inputs, administer trainings and to collect repayments. One Acre Fund offers a flexible repayment system: farmers may pay back their loans in any increment at any time during the growing season. Beyond their core program model, One Acre Fund also offers smallholder farmers opportunities to purchase additional products and services on credit. These include solar lights and reusable sanitary pads.
