Position Summary
The Nutrition Assistant is responsible for implementing the nutrition interventions (Community Based Management of Malnutrition [CMAM], Maternal, Infant, Young Child and Adolescent Feeding [MIYCAF]), while integrating with other sectoral interventions including Livelihood (Backyard gardening) and WASH. The nutrition Assistant will work with Health Workers and Nutrition focal points at the identified health facilities, VHTs and care groups in the communities to ensure early identification, referral and management of malnutrition. Throughout the intervention, the Nutrition Assistant will work towards ensuring the quality delivery of nutrition interventions and building resilience among the program participants in the Project locations.
Key Roles and Responsibilities

1.Nutrition service delivery and active case finding

-Ensure monthly routine quality screening of U-5 and PBW-G at the community and HF level, ensuring appropriate referral of the identified malnutrition cases.
-Participate in beneficiary Identification, profiling, rapid nutrition assessment and nutrition surveillance
-Facilitate integrated outreach services in target communities.
-Participate in community rehabilitation sessions, trainings, and dialogues at both facility and community levels.
-Provide health facilities and VHTs with equipment, reporting tools and other logistical needs necessary for screening and referral of malnourished clients.

2.Community Mobilization
-Support, supervise, and mentor Community Health Workers, Community Based Facilitators, and Volunteers in mobilization, follow-up, and implementation of program activities.
-Conduct support visits to ensure the Care Group Volunteers cascade the lessons to their neighbor mothers and promote uptake in the community.
-Actively participate in events organized within refugee and host communities

3.Social Behavioral Change Promotion

-Conduct sensitization sessions and deliver quality health education on key nutrition actions, MIYCAN, Maternal Health and prevention of WASH-related diseases.
-Promote appropriate nutrition behaviors by ensuring visibility and use of behavior change materials in communities and supported health facilities.

4.Capacity Building and Mentorship

-Build the capacity of Health Workers and Care Group Volunteers/ Lead Mothers through Modular trainings and on-the-job mentorships on MIYCAN
-Provide technical support to ensure quality implementation of nutrition activities, backyard gardening and WASH for model households.

5. Coordination and Reporting

-Ensure quality, timely, and accurate reporting on all areas of program implementation.
-Support the development of case studies, success stories, and lessons learned from program implementation.
-Attend stakeholder coordination meetings at settlement and district levels as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Demands

-While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is required to travel from place to place, while interfacing with program participants and the various stakeholders. Therefore, they MUST be able to ride a motorbike and possess a VALID riding permit
-The employee should be willing to reside within the settlement/ camp.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-A Diploma in Nutrition or any related field from a recognized institute. A bachelor’s degree is an added advantage.
-3 years’ experience implementing community nutrition, with an Emphasis on care group and SBC Approaches.

-Extensive knowledge and experience in Nutrition, Backyard gardening and WASH
-Knowledge and experience in implementation of community nutrition and health programs with demonstrated leadership for MIYCAN, SBC and Kitchen gardening
-Effective communication skills (written and oral) in English
-Knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet and nutrition software
-Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
-Extremely flexible with the ability to cope with stressful situations
-Excellent reporting skills with good oral and written communication skills
-Knowledge of the local language is an added advantage
-Diplomatic and culturally sensitive
-Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
-Good Knowledge of and experience working with CBFs/VHTs in refugee settlements.
-Experience in community-based interventions.
