Sonke Gender Justice (Sonke) works globally and across Africa to strengthen government, civil society and citizen capacity to take action to promote gender equality, prevent domestic and sexual violence and reduce the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS.

Sonke Gender Justice seeks to appoint an Operations Intern, to be based in Cape Town.

Remuneration: A stipend will be paid over the internship period, commensurate with qualifications

The Intern can work on a full-time or part-time basis for a period of six months

The Operations intern will work closely with the Co-Executive Directors and will be responsible for taking and drafting the minutes of the board and management team meetings and other ad hoc meetings. The intern will assist with all logistics relating to the Board, Senior Management Team and Full Management Team meetings. In addition to working with the Co-Executive Director, they will be exposed to other functions of the Operations Unit.

Responsibilities:

  • Minute taking for the Board, SMT, FMT, PUM and other meetings and follow up on action items status
  • Ensure that all meeting minutes are placed in the minute book and signed
  • Maintain a filing system of board correspondence and all key Board documents
  • Provide all administrative support for board meetings
  • Provide logistical support to the Co-Executive Director including booking of the boardroom, arranging catering, printing of documents and compiling of meeting packs for the following meetings:
    • Senior and Full Management Team meetings
    • Board Meetings
    • Other meetings as per request
  • Update the compliance schedule and distribute to all staff
  • Assist with proving all necessary compliance documentation to the auditors and donors
  • Assist with the compilation of the operational plan
  • Assist with drafting letters, policies, templates and other forms of communication

Requirements:

  • BA Admin or a related field
  • Studying towards a Master’s degree will be an added advantage
  • Organised with strong people skills
  • Display a high level of integrity
  • Ability to perform well under pressure
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong planning and organising skills
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
