Peer Educator (Cape Town)
Purpose of Role:
LINKAGES FHI360 project in South Africa, aiming to reduce HIV incidence and mitigate the impact of HIV among men who have sex with men is seeking qualified candidates for the position(s) of Peer Educator.
Responsible to deliver community-based HIV services tailored to the needs of MSM clients based in the district. The candidate will also promote healthy behaviours and prevent risk behaviours in MSM through the implementation of targeted interventions.
Key Responsibility Areas:
· Mobilise and provide Health Risk reduction education and HIV Testing Services including TB and STI screening to MSM clients.
· Work with teams to improve Linkage to care by MSM
· Create a safe space for MSM to discuss social and health-related issues affecting them.
· Participate in outreach campaigns to reach MSM and distribute IEC materials and preventions commodities such as condoms and lubricants in the community.
· Improve Linkage to care by MSM
Carry out all other duties as may be designated by the supervisor.
Skills and Qualifications: Desirable and Essential
· Must have Matric/Grade 12
· Experience in the Key Population field
· Prior experience and knowledge of HIV/AIDS
· A recognised HIV counselling certificate would be a distinct advantage
· Good oral and written communication skills
· Ability to meet deadlines
· Must have a good network of MSM around the City of Johannesburg / Cape Town
