Planned Parenthood Global is the international division of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) an international non-governmental organization working in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights. The Africa Regional Office of Planned Parenthood Global seeks to recruit a temporary Program Intern – Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning.

PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE

In line with Planned Parenthood Global’s mission and goals, the Program Intern Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning will assist in the development and implementation of project-specific plans to monitor progress, evaluate effectiveness, and disseminate results of Planned Parenthood Global supported project activities and innovations. The Program Intern has primary responsibility for designing and maintaining data collection and storage systems and for ensuring that all necessary information, from both routine reporting as well as ad hoc data collection efforts and special studies, are collected, analyzed and used in guiding implementing partner projects and regional program planning, informing funders and collaborating partners about project activities and accomplishments and for dissemination to the wider development audience.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITY

As part of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning teams, the Program Intern will:

  1. Serve as the M&E focal person for Africa Regional Office data management, including data entry, storage, cleaning, analysis and presentation, ensuring the excellence of M&E efforts in support of program implementation.
  2. Manage the development and maintenance of an updated program management information system with data collected on key thematic indicators and ensure accessibility by other staff.
  3. Support the establishment of a filing system for all projects.
  4. Collaborate closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning team and program staff in strengthening Planned Parenthood Global and partner M&E systems.
  5. Collaborate closely with the monitoring, evaluation and learning team and other program staff to conduct partner and facility visits to verify and validate data. S/he will work with program staff to continuously improve data quality.
  6. Collaborate closely with the monitoring, evaluation and learning team and other program staff to ensure preparation and timely submission of donor and other reports.
  7. Update and maintain project reporting schedules; review quarterly data collection and reporting tools for adequacy; and undertake data entry as required.
  8. Assist in reviewing and updating projects’ results frameworks and ensure that they logically capture the hierarchy of objectives, outcomes, outputs, and indicators for the key thematic areas.
  9. Assist in development of project specific M&E plans and provide technical assistance to implementing partners on M&E related activities including customizing and training on use of M&E tools to ensure compliance by the implementers and promote quality assurance.
  10. Work with partners and the communications team to identify and document project best practices and success stories.
  11. Assist in the design and execution of baseline surveys and other evaluation studies and participate in operations research and other data manipulation exercises to provide evidence to improve project management.
  12. Collaborate with Planned Parenthood Global staff in writing abstracts and articles for publication and presentations at conferences.
  13. Assist in organizing and facilitating quarterly and annual project review meetings.
  14. Complete special projects as assigned and required.

POSITIONS REQUIREMENTS

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in public health, sociology, statistics, international development, or a related field plus experience in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) program monitoring, evaluation, and research. Specialized data management training and experience is necessary.

Experience: Three to five years of experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and research, and working with programs to identify and address training and technical assistance needs, preferably with a reproductive health and rights focus. Preference will be given to candidates with NGO experience and experience working in multi-sector programs. Experience with DHIS2 software and systems built with the same is highly desirable.

Skills or Related Knowledge: Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to synthesize information and generate persuasive and clear verbal and written communications. Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and meet deadlines with a keen attention to detail. Self-directed and able to anticipate, prioritize, and manage tasks. Skills and knowledge in DHIS2 software and systems built with the same is highly desirable.

Excellent written and oral English communication skills. Must demonstrate good interpersonal and negotiation skills. Analytical problem solving using systematic approaches to analyze and propose solutions is part of everyday activities and cultural sensitivity is imperative.

Working knowledge of French is desirable
