The AIDS Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) is a Durban-based NGO that acts as an interface between Donors and Community Based Organisations (CBO’s) working in the HIV/AIDS sector by placing donor funds with strategically selected CBOs, in South Africa, and providing them with ongoing, technical support & capacity building.
The HIV Prevention Department is made up of a number of programmes that collectively aim to collective prevent the evolution of the HIV epidemic in South Africa. See the AFSA website for more information of each of the programmes. AFSA wishes to appoint a suitably qualified individual to fill the role of Programme Coordinator.
Purpose of job:
- Provide technical and strategic direction for the OVCY family strengthening programme, provide oversite and coordinate implementation of activities in Ugu and King Cetshwayo Districts.
Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manage stakeholders according to their interest and power/influence
- Prepare for SIMS and Data validation with MER team
- Monitor programme performance
- Draft monthly implementation plan according to programme objectives and ensure successful implementation
- Supervise project team
- Draft monthly project performance reports for submission to programme manager and donor
- Attend weekly progress meetings with donor
- Represent project at key stakeholder and donor meetings
- Participate in district health meetings
- Facilitate linkages and referrals for OVCY and their caregivers
- Track and support implementation to meet targets
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual narrative progress reports
- Document challenges, best practises and success stories in the implementation of activities
- Assist district task teams to identify priority activities for improving access and uptake to services
- Facilitation of programme related trainings and workshops
- Ensure effective and efficient programme implementation
Minimum requirements:
- Social Science Degree or Three-year national diploma in relevant field. Postgraduate qualification at master’s level and/or PGDip in HIV Management or Public Health will be an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing community development, OVC, HIV prevention or similar projects.
- Project management experience
- Must have experience managing and supervising team of more than 5 people and coordinating implementation at ground level through supervisors and team leads
- Must have experiencing working on PEPFAR, USAID or CDC funded programmes
- Experience working with Department of Health at local level and district support partners
- Experience attending and presenting at PAC, DAC and LAC and war room meetings
- Experience managing and overseeing project budget and expenditure
- Knowledge of 90.90.90 cascade and South Africa NSP
- Understanding of operation Sukuma sakhe and KZN health priorities
- Knowledge of HIV prevention, SRHR including PEP, PreP and family planning
- Sound understanding of HIV
- High degree of resilience to accommodate rapidly changing expectations, plans and deliverables
- Can work independently and self-motivated
- Good knowledge of MS excel
- Understand M&E systems and PEPFAR indicators
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
- Fluent in both Zulu and English
- Excellent report writing skills
- Presentation skills
- Ability to drive and travel for work (40%)
