Tearfund is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior professional to lead our programme in CAR.

Do you have the understanding and ability to integrate development and humanitarian work? Do you have a solid understanding of root causes to conflict and poverty and are dedicated to localisation and work with partners? We would love to hear from you!

Based in Bangui (but with frequent field visits), the Programme Director will lead the operational teams and partnership teams in different field locations, as well as the technical advisory group. You will coordinate and collaborate with relevant professionals of the Regional Office and Headquarters and will be the overall person responsible for ensuring that technical and international programming standards are followed.

You will support the Country Director in the implementation of the country strategy in line with Tearfund’s vision, strategy, policies and procedures and during her/his absence may represent Tearfund to the government, donors and the UN as well as coordinating with Clusters and NGOs, including our local partners.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have relevant senior level field management experiences in a multi- sector, multi-funded

relief and development programmes

  • Proven strategic planning and emergency programme and project management experience in both development and humanitarian environments.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and thinking.
  • Proven people management experience
  • Proven application of good practice standards: SPHERE, Core Humanitarian Standard and Red Cross Codes of Conduct.
  • Donor relationship and grant management
  • Significant proven ability in project cycle management and evaluation, and in budget development and management.
  • Implementing and working in accordance with corporate structures, policies and practices.
  • Be a strong leader with substantial senior experience in development work and humanitarian response
  • Have a proven and successful record of strategic planning and thinking; programmes and project cycle management, monitoring, learning and evaluation and fundraising; people and team management and development; operational programmes budget management; and ensuring compliance to donor and corporate systems and procedures.
  • Have an excellent command of French and English

Tearfund is a UK Christian relief and development agency which works in over 50 countries. It is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee.Tearfund supports poor communities, marginalised groups, vulnerable adults, children, churches, education, HIV victims, conflicts, injustice, hunger, water and sanitation.

The charity was created out of the Evangelical Alliance (EA) and the Evangelical Refugee Fund created by the United Nations.

The organisation was originally called The Evangelical Alliance Relief Fund Committee (abbreviated to TEAR Fund).

George Hoffman headed up the fund.[In January 1969 Cliff Richard did two fundraising concerts for Tearfund at London's Royal Albert Hall.:29 He has served as the charity's Vice President and in 1999 served as its president.In 2009 Richard gave the proceeds of his first 50th anniversary concert in Wembley Arena to Tearfund.

Tearfund was registered as a charity on 6 March 1973.

Tearfund Ireland was launched as an independent charity in 2008 and now works closely with Tearfund UK as a sister organisation.
