Youth Opportunity & Transformation in Africa (YOTA) is an ECOSOC-accredited NGO at the forefront of youth development policy, practice and research in Ghana. For more than 15 years, we have delivered tailored skills to young people, leading to improvements in their leadership, financial literacy, entrepreneurship and life planning skills. Through our service delivery, we have provided education, skills training, and technical support to thousands of youth and helped them transition to self and wage employment. Our research has contributed to filling the gap in youth data and the evidence base for public policy. And, we continue to use our national appeal and grassroots constituency, through our Voices of Youth Coalition, to advocate and campaign for youth-inclusive policies at all levels.

Purpose of the role:

These Programme Intern positions are an opportunity offered by YOTA targeting candidates who want to build relevant skills and prepare for a career in the international development and humanitarian sector. Successful candidates will be expected to take advantage of this learning and value-adding opportunity to gather experience and develop pertinent skills for personal development through supporting effective programme implementation, stakeholder engagement, and networking across various interventions.

Responsibilities:

· Support the implementation cycle of designated youth empowerment projects

· Provide administrative support during project workshops, seminars and other convenings

· Support the development of periodic work plans, budgets and reports in accordance with internal and donor policies

· Provide support and participate in policy advocacy and campaign initiatives

· Support YOTA’s efforts to engage with broader national and international youth organisations, platforms and policy spaces

· Provide support and participate in monitoring, documentation, dissemination of programme activities

· Support in processing payment vouchers for disbursement of funds for programme activities; support effective advance and retirement processes for assigned programme expenditures

· Spearhead logistics arrangements for programme activities

· Liaise with selected service providers to ensure timely delivery of services for assigned activities

· Represent YOTA and the Skills Hub external multi-stakeholder workshops and conferences

Person specification:

· Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences; postgraduate degree in a related field will be an added advantage

· Experience in advocating for youth rights, broader human rights or other development issues

· Knowledge of youth national and international trends in youth development, including youth participation, employability, policy and advocacy, etc

· Evidence of volunteering experience in an NGO or charity organisation

· Experience in using digital media for youth engagement desired

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM applications

· Good analytical and strategic thinking skills and strong research skills

· Demonstrated verbal communications and interpersonal skills

· Ability to work in a team

· Ability to prioritise tasks and pay attention to detail; ability to be flexible and be willing to assume a range of unanticipated assignments

Salary & benefits:

This is not a salaried position. YOTA will cover the cost of the successful candidates’ daily commute.
