Program Officer- School Health and Nutrition (Wakiso)

Save the Children International is currently recruiting for the, Program Officer-School Health and Nutrition for the Central Region of Uganda. The Program Officer-School Health and Nutrition is primarily responsible for planning and ensuring quality and timely implementation of the School Health and Nutrition (SHN) core program within the designated sub counties. S/he is expected to implement the SHN program in a manner that promotes integration with other core programs of Sponsorship and cross cutting themes such as gender, disability, child Protection and righ ts programming. The Program Officer-School Health and Nutrition also implements the SHN program in collaboration with Sub county stakeholders and ensure meaningful active participation of Children. S/he will take lead in sustainable WASH innovations in schools. S/he may be called upon as and when necessary to support the emergency team in cases of humanitarian crisis.

To be successful for this role, you will have/bring the following:
* Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Environmental Health or any health related discipline.
* At least 3 years’ experience in WASH and gender programming. Post graduate training in either public health, Health Systems Strengthening, Community Health, Reproductive Health, WASH, Gender etc will be of added advantage.
* Ability to speak the local language Luganda fluently is a strong requirement. Ability to ride a motorcycle (Honda XL 125) with a valid riding permit
* Thorough understanding of SCI working principles and approaches of Child Participation, Child Rights Programming, Partnership, Child Safeguarding, Zero Tolerance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Programme Integration etc.
* Demonstrable financial, planning and budget management skills a MUST. Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
* Demonstrated knowledge of international and local policies and frameworks relating to their thematic area is a must.
* Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
* Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
* Excellent planning, coordination and reporting skills, with the ability to organize a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities
* Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
* Experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, WASH, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.
* Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.

We also campaign and advocate at the highest levels to realize children’s rights and ensure their voices are heard.
