Africare’s Injongo Yethu Project provides technical support and assistance as a contribution to the South African Government’s response to HIV and AIDS in the Chris Hani and Amathole Districts of the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.  Funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the project aims to strengthen and scale up prevention, treatment, care and support for people living with HIV and AIDS, their caregivers, family members, and community including orphans and children made vulnerable due to HIV and AIDS.

Africare seeks to appoint Programme Officers, based in Eastern Cape.

  • Lukhanji Sub District (based in Queenstown) x 1
  • Inxuba Yethemba Sub District (based in Cradock) x 1

Responsibilities:

  • Promote and work to expand community services capacity in the care and support of OVCs, their primary caregivers, and immediate communities on orphans and children made vulnerable due to HIV and AIDS
  • Work in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and community structures in the promotion of community interventions and mobilisation to increase knowledge on HIV and AIDS, TB and STI
  • Implement sustainable Paediatric care and OVC linkages within health care facilities, Department of Social Development, CBOs and community structures to provide quality care services to OVC, child headed families and their primary care givers
  • Strengthen implementation of quality of OVC services through capacity building for programme partners
  • Contribute to weekly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports for all stakeholders
  • Work with DAC in training and community advocacy and in implementing OVC services
  • Conduct and co-facilitate trainings for different stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Degree in Social Work or related Community development field
  • At least two years’ experience in successful implementation and management of HIV care, treatment and support services including OVC care and support interventions in the clinical, public, private or NGO sector
  • Two years’ professional experience in managing and implementing M&E activities preferably in a community and clinical setting. Knowledge of collation and analysing reports
  • Strong writing skills, including writing of reports, operational and activity plans as well as training plans
  • Knowledge of Department of Health and of Social Development reporting indicators in South Africa. Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform and ability to manage several major multidimensional activities simultaneously
  • Effective verbal and written communication, multitasking, organisational, and prioritisation of skills
  • Computer skills, good interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Experience in public speaking and professional presentations
  • Proficiency in isiXhosa essential
  • Ability to travel extensively and a valid driver’s licence
  • Must be available to start immediately
