Project Officer

Location: Kanifing, The Gambia, Home-based

Hours: Full time

Reporting to: Gambia Project Coordinator, WasteAid

WasteAid is an independent UK charity (non-profit), set up by waste management professionals to share practical and low-cost waste management know-how with communities in low-income countries. As waste managers, we understand the importance of waste management for public health, and we also know that small enterprises can be successful in turning waste materials into useful products. We set up WasteAid in 2015 to share know-how and skills with communities that can benefit from this type of advice and support.

CONTEXT

CIWM (Chartered Institution for Waste Management) and WasteAid UK, a UK charity organisation are launching in partnership, a project to promote best practices in waste management in The Gambia. In order to implement this project, WasteAid UK is seeking to appoint a Project Officer to be based in The Gambia.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITY

The Project Officer will provide administrative and project management supports to the Project Coordinator in order to achieve the objectives of the projects coordinated and implemented by WasteAid in The Gambia.

SPECIFIC TASKS

Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, The Project Officer will be accountable for the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • To support partners to achieve the objectives of their projects
  • Actively support partners in implementing their work plan and report back to Line Manager
  • Organize the logistical aspects of field visits, trainings and workshops
  • Keep track of partners’ reporting and deliverable timeline and follow-up with them for timeline submission
  • Write monthly reports on status of implementation with draft inputs for donor reports
  • Assist in organizing capacity building activities for partners
  • Collect data and information for the implementation of the CEN, situation analysis of solid waste management, stakeholder mapping
  • To provide content on the projects for WasteAid’s communication team to promote the organization’s work and impact in The Gambia
  • To participate to the development of the digital platform of the project

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essentials

  • A passion and commitment for the work of WasteAid
  • A university degree or other professional qualification in Public administration, Economics, Development Studies, Project Management, Business or financial management
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent administrative skills
  • Excellent skills in logistics, organization and planning
  • High level of computer literacy with excellent MS Office skills
  • Ability to understand budgets, analyse figures and prepare forecasts
  • At least two years of working experience in a project or administrative setting

Advantageous

  • Working experience with communities and local actors
  • Advance IT and social media skills
  • Good understanding of the waste management arena in The Gambia
  • Experience in working with and knowledge of both government and civil society in The Gambia
