WHO WE ARE

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

THE PURPOSE

Under the direct supervision of the Protection of Family Links Team Lead, the PFL field officer is responsible for the implementation of Restoring of Family Links activities in a defined area of responsibilities (AOR) to respond adequately to the needs of families searching for their missing loved ones.

YOUR ROLE

  • Contributes to the analysis and periodical synthesis of all relevant information pertinent to the PFL activities.
  • Manages the caseload for the AoR including identifying and prioritizing action, maintaining contact with volunteers, attributing workload, assessing quality of work done.
  • Coaches, supervises, and provides feedback to Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) volunteers as they collect and treat RFL cases (UAM/SC, TC RCM etc) in the area of responsibility.
  • Assists to deliver capacity-building trainings for NRCS RFL Volunteers.
  • Plans and conducts field trips in support of RFL operations and produces comprehensive and timely reports.
  • Receives and responds to request received from enquirers calling the office, keeping records and statistics.
  • Supports in the compiling, cross-checking, and processing of volunteer incentives and other administrative task associated with PFL activities.
  • Checks and processes all documentation before transmission to the delegation in a timely manner.
  • Occasionally translates RFL documents from local languages to English and vice versa.
  • Uses the institutional database (Prot 6) to register cases, access reports, prepare working tools and search for beneficiaries.
  • Ensures the flow of information related to Data Management is thorough and complete.

YOUR PROFILE: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, humanitarian affairs, social sciences, administration, or any other relevant field
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years working experience preferably in Protection work.
  • Working proficiency in English and Hausa is compulsory. Working proficiency in Kanuri is a plus
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), and collaborative spaces. This role requires a strong understanding of Excel formulas, functions, and data manipulation techniques.
  • Experience with case management databases.
  • Previous working experience with an INGO is an asset.
  • Experience with the Nigerian Red Cross Society is an asset.
  • Excellent planning and writing abilities.
  • Knowledge of the cultural and socio-economic environment in North-east Nigeria
  • Applicant must have a valid working permit to work in Nigeria.
