The Operations Center Paris – OCP- Section of Médecins Sans Frontières is recruiting for its project in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

PSYCHOLOGIST

Context

Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in crisis, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.

Since 2015, MSF runs a clinic in PHC dedicated to victims of rape and sexual violence (SGBV). MSF is offering medical care, psychological and social support to victims. All services provided by MSF are free and MSF ensure full confidentiality for all patients.

2017 objective is to open a second sexual violence clinic in Obio-Akpor.

Job Description

  • Provide psychological support to patients, and their families, surviving sexual violence.
  • Mental health assessement, therapeutic plan and follow up of patients with sever trauma
  • Follow up of psychologic referal patients to other medical facilities
  • Participate to daily meeting and cases review.

Requirements

  • Education: Essential degree or diploma in Psychology
  • Experience: Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychologist
  • Desirable previous experience working in a SGBV clinic
  • Desirable previous experience with NGO’s in developing countries

Work Location

  • Port Harcourt LGA and Obio/Akpor LGA, Nigeria

Contract

  • This recruitment is for 1 full-time position on an indefinite contract.
  • 208 working hours per month and roster flexibility required.

Remuneration

  • Monthly Gross salary of 288,900 NGN (Four hundred and forty nine thousand and nine hundred Naira only) plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was founded in 1971 in France by a group of doctors and journalists in the wake of war and famine in Biafra. Their aim was to establish an independent organisation that focuses on delivering emergency medicine aid quickly, effectively and impartially.

Doctors Without Borders

Three hundred volunteers made up the organisation when it was founded: doctors, nurses and other staff, including the 13 founding doctors and journalists.

MSF was created in the belief that all people should have access to healthcare regardless of gender, race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that people’s medical needs outweigh respect for national boundaries. MSF’s principles of action are described in our charter, which established a framework for our activities.

MSF's first missions

MSF’s first mission was to the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, in 1972, after an earthquake destroyed most of the city and killed between 10,000 and 30,000 people.

In 1974, MSF set up a relief mission to help the people of Honduras after Hurricane Fifi caused major flooding and killed thousands of people.

In 1975, MSF established its first large-scale medical programme during a refugee crisis, providing medical care for the waves of Cambodians seeking sanctuary from Pol Pot’s oppressive rule.

In these first missions, the weaknesses of MSF as a new humanitarian organisation became readily apparent: preparation was lacking, doctors were left unsupported and supply chains were tangled.
