About the Programme

The Girl Generation (TGG): Support to the Africa Led Movement to End FGM/C Programme, (TGG-ALM) is a consortium led by Options Consultancy Services, and includes Amref Health Africa, ActionAid, Orchid Project, Africa Coordination Centre for Abandonment of FGM/C and University of Portsmouth. It works closely with the Population Council’s Data Hub, the programme’s data and measurement arm. The programme envisions a world where girls and women can exercise their power and rights and have expanded choice and agency and be free from violence, including FGM/C.

The programme includes two consortia working in close collaboration. Options leads a consortium including Amref Health Africa, ActionAid UK, Orchid Project, ACCAF and University of Portsmouth to implement the ‘Support to the Africa Led Movement to End FGM/C. Population Council is implementing ‘The FGM/C Data Hub: Data and Measurement Support to the Africa Led Movement to end FGM/C’.

The programme is currently being implemented Kenya, Senegal, Ethiopia and Somaliland.

Position

Options is seeking a certified psychotherapist consultant with extensive experience of working therapeutically with survivors of Female Genital Mutilation/Cut (FGM/C) or survivors of other forms of Gender Based Violence (GBV). The engagement will be for a total of four (4) days comprising residential Survivor Leadership Training of Trainers (SLToT) for Female Genital Mutilation/Cut (FGM/C) Survivors. The training will be held in Kenya in the month of June 2024 and will include Survivors from Senegal, Somaliland, Ethiopia and Kenya.

The Consultants shall:

  • Work closely with the Lead Consultant to develop the training agenda and relevant materials/resources as may be required.
  • Co-facilitate a 4-day workshop, in collaboration with the Lead Consultant and lead on all psychosocial/mental health related topics e.g. (Emotional Well-being, Self-care etc).
  • Provide professional and confidential well-being services (direct individual and group counselling support) to survivors of FGM/C, grounded in the Africa Led Movement (ALM) holistic, survivor centred Do No Harm approach.
  • Ensure that Survivor stories are captured in a supporting and validating environment, with a specific focus on the emotional wellbeing angle, and provide appropriate safeguarding and psychosocial support.

Deliverables

The consultants are expected to complete and submit the following deliverables;

  • Physical presence at, and co-facilitation during, the 4-days training.
  • Physical presence at, and provision of psychotherapy services during, the 4-days training.
  • Participation in debrief meetings and preparation of report summarising outcomes and recommendations.
  • Support participants in developing self-care plans (provide at least two samples).

Requirements

  • Advance degree in an applicable Psychotherapy discipline.
  • Receipt of supervised applied Psychotherapeutic training.
  • Demonstrable experience as a psychotherapist.
  • Expertise in prevailing evidence-based protocols.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skilled at boosting compliance with interventions.
  • A flexible, empathic, and receptive approach to psychotherapy.
  • Highly proficient in English language (written and spoken). French language or is an added advantage.
  • Strong commitment to the values and approaches of TGG-ALM Programme, including a strong commitment to the Do No Harm framework, safeguarding, girl-centred approach, survivor leadership, participation, gender equality, and the end FGM/C and other forms of gender-based violence.
  • A collaborative approach to teamwork.
