The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.

In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who: a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;

  1. b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
  2. c) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
  3. d) are between 20 and 36 years of age.

Background: This position is for National Interns and it will be for the Regional Office of IOM based in Cairo, Egypt

Responsibilities

Supervision

  • Under the overall supervision of the Regional Director and the direct supervision of the Regional Coordination Officer, the intern will be responsible for providing overall administrative and programmatic support in the day-to-day functions of the IOM Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa and the Regional Director’s Office

Learning Objectives

  • Assist the Regional Coordination Officer with the preparations of Regional Director related nonstandard reports, briefings, talking points, correspondence, and presentations.
  • Support with the finalization of Regional Office’s (RO) strategic reports together with relevant RO and country-office (CO) colleagues.
  • Update, monitor, and maintain all the relevant documents in the Office of the Regional Director SharePoint site.
  • Assist with preparations in support of the Regional Director’s different missions in the region and outside, through working on the RD’s agenda, talking points, background documents, liaising with relevant country-office colleagues, as well as ensuring logistical arrangements have been taken care of, among other tasks.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of internal and external events, such as conferences, meetings, workshops, both virtual and in-person, including administrative and logistical arrangements, in close coordination with administration, procurement, and logistics staff among others.
  • More generally, support the preparation, organization, implementation and follow-up of internal and external meetings, workshops, events, and conferences, including compiling inputs, collecting agenda items, taking notes, preparing brief meeting minutes and summaries for the corresponding meetings, workshops, events, and conferences.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned

Training Components and Learning Elements

  • Following the completion of the internship, the intern would gain hands-on experience in supporting the drafting of reports, briefings, talking points, and presentations tailored for high-level stakeholders, which would enhance the candidate’s skills in professional writing and communication.
  • The intern will also get the chance to learn about strategic planning and reporting processes, acquire sufficient knowledge on the coordination and logistics involved in missions conducted by the Regional Director and other senior leadership, build expertise in planning and executing internal and external events, as well as develop proficiency in information management.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in arts, Political or Social Science, Business Administration, International Relations, Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with relevant professional experience.

Experience:

  • Experience in the field of Migration or international affairs is a plus.
  • Experience in research methods desirable.

Skills

  • Excellent research, writing and organizational skills.
  • Excellent experience working with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Capable of meeting deadlines while working independently
  • Focused, engaged, methodical and analytical.
  • Proactively engaged and capable of executing instructions.
  • Hardworking and result oriented

Languages: IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.

Fluency in English and Arabic (Writing and Oral) is required for this internship/

IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
