Context:

Under general supervision of the Regional Health Assessment Program Coordinator (RHAPC) and the technical guidance of the Regional Medical Movement Coordinator and the medical administrative guidance of the Chief Nurse, will be responsible for supporting Medical Movements related activities in the region.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

In particular he/she will:

Assist the Regional Travel Health Nurse (RTHN) in:-

  1. Review of all Class B Other and SMC cases before departure and at least once the booking notification has been received.
  2. Assist maintaining an up-to-date roster of all internal and external Medical Escorts in the region, with their passport and visa validities.
  3. Participate in the interview of new applicants for the position of medical escorting when requested.
  4. Assist to update the escorts on new policies, rules and regulations regarding IOM and escort missions.
  5. Maintain a record of all medical escort missions supported by IOM Nairobi for various countries in the region.
  6. Directly communicate with the medical escorts when assigned for medical movements, and throughout the escort mission.
  7. Assist to follow up on escort arrangements. If the medical escort is from a different country than that of the patient liaise with the country’s medical focal points.
  8. Assist to provide the Medical escorts with the needed forms, medical reports, medical kit, IOM Escort vest and badge, along with any special needed equipment to be used during the medical movement.
  9. Assist coordinate with the HR, Administrative/Finance and Operations Units to prepare the needed documents for the escort mission, including the TA and flight arrangements.
  10. Ensure that all the involved staff are informed in case of any change in the Movement arrangements.
  11. Receive and share escort feedback and documents. Compiling statistics and reports of all escort missions.
  12. Maintain well prepared Medical Escort Kits ready for use at any moment, with functioning equipment and valid medication supplies. To monitor expiry of medical supplies.
  13. Submit and follow up on orders for replenishing any consumed equipment or medications used during the escort mission as per IOM MHD guidelines.
  14. Review the e-Advanced Medical Notification reports for movements out of Africa from remotely assisted locations and highlight cases that might need special travel arrangements.
  15. Follow up with the Regional Data Team to ensure applicants’ information related to pre-departure evaluation and related documents are entered into MiMosa.
  16. Liaise with the OPS and MHDs in remote locations to ensure proper arrangements are in place pertaining medical screening of the applicants prior to departure.
  17. Conduct Quality Control checks on health assessment data received from the IOM affiliated panel sites in Africa, highlighting any cases that warrant further medical follow up.
  18. Participate in trainings for internal and external escorts and MHD staff on medical movement guidelines and travel arrangements.
  19. Assist to manage medical emergencies during movements out of Africa and be ready to report and assist.
  20. Perform other related tasks as seen needed.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • University degree from an accredited academic institution in Nursing with minimum Three years (3) of relevant clinical experience and valid license to practice nursing.
  • Or Diploma in nursing and minimum 5 years of relevant experience and valid license to practice nursing.

Experience

  • Training or working experience in the areas of Emergency medicine, pediatrics, theatre experience, aviation medicine and ICU medicine.

Skills

  • Excellent technical skills and counselling skills.
  • Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access).

Languages

Fluency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili is required. Working knowledge of other IOM official Languages is an advantage.
