James House Child and Youth Care Centre runs two pioneering residential treatment centres for adolescents (age 14 – 16) with frequent challenging behaviour.

James House seeks two Registered Counselor / Social Workers to be based at Hout Bay and Vredendal, in Western Cape.

Requirements

  • BA (Hons) in Psychology and registered as a counsellor with the HPSCA or Social Worker registered with the SACSSP
  • Experience working with youth and in a school context
  • Experience working in disadvantaged communities
  • Experience in managing adolescents who display externalising behaviour
  • Sound experience of group, family and individual counselling
  • Knowledge of trauma and its effects an added advantage
  • Knowledge of and experience in administering, scoring and interpreting psychometric assessments
  • Knowledge of the Children’s Act
  • Administrative skills
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Verbal, visual and written communication skills
  • Afrikaans and English or English and isiXhosa language fluency, both written and verbal
  • Driver’s license essential
  • Basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation
  • Ability to work independently but also closely in a team
  • Willing to work weekends and late nights
  • Community conscious
