Context:

Through the Niger Community Cohesion Initiative (NCCI), IOM seeks to improve community stabilization by developing and implementing small-grant activities through a process-oriented, community driven approach in Diffa, Tillabéri and Tahoua regions. The overall goal of NCCI is that at-risk communities have more trust in local government authorities and state structures and have improved resilience and cohesion to resist and address conflict, insecurity, and violent extremist threats in targeted regions.

Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Niger, and the direct supervision of the Programme Manager (PM) for the NCCI, the successful candidate has the primary responsibility for providing high quality, accurate, and reliable reports that depict the project’s status, activities, accomplishments, and challenges. S/he is responsible for collecting and

examining data from weekly field reports and compiling it into a series of reports for distribution to donors, partners and within IOM. S/he will also assist in creating and maintaining a series of fact sheets, presentations, program highlights, short videos, and success stories that showcase NCCI accomplishments. S/he will work closely with IOM’s Niger Communications Officer to facilitate media outreach and create content for social media. S/he will be expected to have professional skills and quickly develop a functional knowledge of IOM processes, procedures, and guidelines.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Create or draft monthly activity reports and semi-annual donor reports detailing activities and successes/challenges in close collaboration with NCCI’s Grants Unit, Program Development Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Units and Information Management Officer.
  2. Work closely with IOM Niger Communications Officer to assist in managing existing social media accounts, providing fresh material and responding to feedback.
  3. Facilitate timely preparation and generation of information products and support information sharing and dissemination through all relevant channels in close collaboration with NCCI’s Grants Unit, Program Development Officer, M&E Units and Information Management Officer.
  4. Provide assistance to the PM of NCCI and other senior IOM Niger staff in preparing presentations to represent NCCI in donor meetings, briefings, conferences, UN Working Group meetings, national and regional governmental meetings, etc.
  5. Write success stories and lessons learned narratives/recommendations for review by PM and Program Support Unit (PSU) to be shared with donor and other stakeholders.
  6. Build a strong relationship with entire program and administrative team to enhance the ability to collect relevant stories for publication. Track relevant data and information, and develop and update NCCI presentations and promotional materials that showcase the program highlights and accomplishments.
  7. In close coordination with IOM Niger’s Communications Officer, participate in outreach to media as appropriate to facilitate coverage of NCCI in the media.
  8. Monitor media reports for news that directly is of interest to NCCI.
  9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in International Affairs, Communications or related field with two years of relevant professional experience; or,

• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• Experience in use of social media and other internet-based outreach;

• Experience with handling confidential data;

• Prior work experience with IOM is an asset;

• Prior work experience in the region and understanding of region issues and trends is an advantage.

Skills

• Commitment, stamina and adaptability in the workplace;
