Inclusive Education South Africa (IESA) is a non-profit organisation that promotes and supports inclusive education practices in schools and preschools throughout the country. The organisation’s core focus is the implementation of funded projects designed to sensitise and empower all role players to an inclusive approach to educating the children in their community.
IESA seek to appoint a Researcher to conduct in-house, desktop and field-based action research to be based in Johannesburg.
The collection, analysis and dissemination of this data will drive our advocacy activities, aimed at informing and influencing policy makers, holding government to account, identifying systemic barriers to learning, informing rights holders and engaging with civil society and other education stakeholders to contribute to and shape education conversations in South Africa.
This is a 12-month contract, based at IESA’s Head Office in Parktown, Johannesburg.
Salary for this role is negotiable, depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
- Gather data and evidence-based information on IE through research, fieldwork, civil society collaboration and individual casework
- Document research findings via articles, papers, M&E and Impact Reports, alternative reports, policy comments, written and oral submissions and case studies
- Develop research questionnaires, tools and indicators
- Conduct interviews
- Write analytical reports, papers, articles and policy briefs on Inclusive Education, based on data analysis of research findings
- Develop strong partnerships with other research groups and organisations
Requirements:
- A minimum of three to five years of research and policy analysis experience is essential
- A Master’s Degree, preferably in Social Sciences or Education
- Qualitative and quantitative research and evaluation skills
- Detail-oriented
- Strong writing and editing skills, with examples of high-level research reports produced
- Experience in communicating research outcomes via both formal (academic/policy/proposals/reports) and informal (social media/newsletters/media) channels
- Experience and networks within the development/education sectors is advantageous
- Willingness to travel, valid drivers’ license and own reliable vehicle essential
