The Equal Education Law Centre (EELC) focuses on public interest litigation and advocacy to advance the right to basic education in South Africa. The Law Centre also aims to develop young, skilled attorneys and law graduates in public interest litigation. EELC is a team of activist lawyers working to advance the struggle for quality and equality in education, through legal advocacy and strategic litigation. The EELC works closely with our sister organisation, Equal Education, a movement of learners, parents, teachers and community members, working for quality and equality in South African education, through analysis and activism.
Equal Education Law Centre seeks to appoint the legal researcher to be based in Western Cape.
We are a team of activist lawyers working to advance the struggle for quality and equality in education, through legal advocacy and strategic litigation. The EELC works closely with our sister organisation, Equal Education, a movement of learners, parents, teachers and community members, working for quality and equality in South African education, through analysis and activism.
We are looking for a research candidate who is are passionate about social justice, law and education. Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Postgraduate qualification in social sciences, education, law or related field;
- 3- 5 years’ post-qualification research experience;
- Demonstrated qualitative research track record, including design of research data collection tools;
- Experience of different research methodologies;
- Demonstrated expertise in researching and analysing legislative and policy frameworks;
- Exceptional writing skills;
- Excellent skills in data synthesis and analysis;
- Demonstrated expertise in planning and managing a research project;
- Demonstrated expertise in budget analysis is desirable; and
- Based in the Western Cape or able to relocate.
Candidates who show a commitment to social justice and the struggle for equality will be preferred. The EELC conducts its recruitment with a commitment to transformation.
