The Opportunity 

  • Conduct the WASH promotion activities of the project are implemented according to the approved donor and government agreements.
  • Planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and review of response activities as per the agreed document with donors and partners as per the direction of the sanitation and hygiene promotion officer.
  • Work with community leaders to identify volunteers for hygiene promotion/education;
  •  Assist in the preparation of a detailed work plan for hygiene promotion/education activities and ensure proper implementation of the same;
  • Work with the Hygiene Promotion Officer to mobilize the host community to select a site and design to build latrines, and water points for vulnerable groups, and ensure the needs of the most vulnerable are considered at all stages of hygiene promotion intervention
  • Conduct awareness and enhance hygiene behavior change in line with national Sanitation and hygiene implementation strategies.
  • Disseminate and distribute the IEC material according to the specific targeted group (adults, children, and persons living with disabilities).
  • Implement WASH promotion activities according to the identified needs. These may include but are not limited to: conducting sex and age-segregated consultations with the affected community, WASH kit distributions, WASH kit use demonstrations, water treatment, and water quality monitoring, training and follow-up of community health workers, and cleaning campaigns.
  • implement WASH promotion activities that keep the community and the staff safe from the risk of WASH-related diseases.

 

The Individual

 

    • University degree in Environmental Health, water supply, public health, or a related subject. Adequate experience in the field will substitute for formal qualifications.
    • Minimum 2 years of total experience of which experience in the WASH sector and experience in emergency WASH is advantageous.
    • Experience in hygiene promotion in a complex and demanding workload.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, and an ability to train and mentor staff.
    • Desired spoken and written English.
    • Good computer skills (particularly Excel, Word, and databases
    • Good knowledge of the area and local custom
    • Knowledge Languages required:
    • Good knowledge of the local language, the Gambella is mandatory, Amharic, and English languages;

 

 

Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)

  • Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed by the appropriate procedures.
  • Ensures that all staff sign safeguarding policies;
  • Implement Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion, which are fully embedded in daily work.

Plan International is an international organisation or development which works in 51 countries across Africa, the Americas, and Asia to promote the safeguarding of children.It is a nonprofit organisation and is one of the world's largest organisations based on children, it works in 58,000 communities with the help of volunteers to improve how 56 million children live.
