About the Role

The Senior Associate, Workforce Nutrition in close collaboration with the Project Manager, CASCADE will have overall responsibility of the day-to-day operational delivery, project implementation and monitoring of the workforce nutrition programme under the SBN Uganda strategy, ensuring that project outputs and activities are successfully implemented within approved plans, budget, timeline, and quality standards.

The postholder will be expected to take the lead on key project coordination, fundraising and advocacy activities, including contributing to building and maintaining strong partnerships with relevant partners and stakeholders working on workforce nutrition and coordinating the collaboration and implementation of project partners including government, cooperatives, other private sector players – SBN and others, and other implementing partners towards funders.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • In collaboration with the CASCADE Project Manager, the GAIN country office and SBN Uganda team, take responsibility for the overall management and implementation of a workforce nutrition project in Uganda to be established within government, private sector, SME and institutions (prisons, schools, etc).
  • Managing the project schedule, activity plan and planning milestones, supporting the tracking of progress and deliverables from project partners and implementing countries.
  • Coordinate the collaboration and implementation of project partners including government, cooperatives, other private sector players – SBN and others, and other implementing partners towards funders.
  • Write donors’ reports in collaboration with project teams, technical teams, funding team and support teams. Ensure narrative reporting and financial accounting meet GAIN and donor’s requirements.
  • Support the development of appropriate communication materials, technical documents, advocacy briefs and related materials to drive key project activities.
  • Drive the enforcement of workforce nutrition policies in Uganda by facilitating policy dialogues that sensitize organizations to these policies and encourage their implementation.
  • Ensure timely monthly project reporting on program progress achieved, program plans, changes in direction and challenges encountered.
  • Facilitate accurate project budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring that activities costs are kept within budgets.
  • Support the PST colleagues to generate resource mobilization opportunities and support proposal development for the thematic area.

About you

The ideal candidate should have practical work experience in nutrition, sustainability programmes, or relevant social sector programmes. Experience in public-private partnerships working with private sector and managing partnerships. Solid experience in representation with key donors, government and internal and external stakeholders

The post holder should have experience in project management, implementation, budget and grantee oversight within international development / food industry experience. Demonstrate success in being part of multi-disciplinary teams, engaging with government and private sector stakeholders and collaborators.

You should have Strong ability to build new relationships and work with diverse groups/individuals, ranging from local partners, local authorities, local community groups, civil society and the private sector. The candidate should have an education background in in communications and marketing management/ social science/ economics/business or related work experience.

About our Offer

The starting gross salary on offer for this role is from UGX 59’553’288– UGX 68’118’768 per annum, depending on experience.

OUR IMPACT /

GAIN has helped 892 million people to access affordable, nutritious food — about 350 million of whom are women and children. Our work to fortify staple foods and condiments with essential micronutrients reaches more than 30 countries worldwide. Our work includes helping to improve the quality of foods and diets and educating families of the benefits of breastfeeding and good nutrition. Worldwide, our projects are changing lives and contributing to reducing micronutrient deficiencies through large-scale food fortification. For example, we’ve increased the intake of vitamin A in Indonesia by fortifying edible oils and the intake of iron in China by fortifying soy sauce.

By 2017, we aim to increase the intake of essential micronutrients such as vitamins A, D, iron, folic acid and iodine for 1.3 billion people, including 400 million women and adolescent girls, and 200 million children under five.

In countries with the highest rates of malnutrition, multinutrient supplements or ‘home fortification’ help improve nutrition when mixed into food. In Bangladesh, we launched a new micronutrient powder program in collaboration with international development organization BRAC. Since launch, 80,000 community workers have been trained to promote home fortification, and five million sachets were sold in 2014. Monthly sales have more than tripled during the year and the overall market for micronutrient powders grew by 15 percent, with 45 million sachets produced in 2014 alone.
