CONTEXT AND DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The Senior Liaison Associate is supervised by the Senior Liaison Officer to the League of Arab States (LAS).
The Senior Liaison Associate liaises with colleagues within the same Office, on matters of non-routine significance in order to prepare documents for the supervisor and manage the flow of information.
Regular contacts with officials from League of Arab States, from Affiliated Arab Specialized Agencies and Embassies/ Permanent Delegations to the League, are made to provide the Supervisor’s and the Representative with background information on relevant topics prior to the meetings, to respond queries on behalf of the supervisor at his/her discretions and to obtain assistance of others on matters of relevant to the Office.
The post requires the ability to prioritize tasks and to organize work independently based on direction from the supervisor.
The incumbent also ensures that UNHCR is present in all relevant LAS Committees and Organs which require that UNHCR position on POCs is constantly disseminated and reflected.
THE INCUMBENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING ASSIGNED DUTIES:
Accountability (key results that will be achieved)
§ The Supervisor is provided support by managing the flow of information and communications, prioritizing and highlighting issues that need to be addressed.
§ Background documents on Protection issues for meetings are prepared in time.

Responsibility (process and functions undertaken to achieve results)
§ Stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments in the region that have an impact on the protection environment.
§ Assist the Supervisor in facilitating effective information management through the provision of disaggregated data on PoCs and their problems.
§ Draft periodically regional reports on Refugee situation in the Arab League Space to be disseminated to LAS Secretariat and concerned Embassies.
§ Assist in providing comments and contribute by compiling necessary information for drafting the Regional Strategies (Child Protection, SGBV, and Health) and Country Plan of Actions to be addressed to LAS Member States.
§ Liaise with officials to ensure the issuance of all documentation related to UNHCR programmes and activities.
§ Assist the Supervisor in the preparation of statements that represent UNHCR’s overall policies in the region and which highlight the specific protection areas.
§ Ensure that the Supervisor is prepared for meetings by drafting Talking Points, by researching relevant information; and by establishing contacts (within and outside UNHCR) on the subject matters to be discussed.
§ Accompany the Supervisor to meetings and on missions in order to prepare notes on the discussions, ensure follow-up in matters raised, and support the supervisor with any relevant input.
§ Support the Supervisor in efforts to raise profile of UNHCR within the context of broader LAS system.
§ Assist the Supervisor in organizing the Joint UNHCR-LAS Regional Workshops, and High level Conference on Protection issues.
§ Draft the meeting reports.
§ Maintain policy, confidential and general management files.
§ Perform other related duties as required.

§ Prioritise tasks and organize work independently.
§ Have access to highly sensitive information.
§ Liaise with external parties on issues related to the functions.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
§ Completion of secondary education with post-secondary certificate/ training in International Law, Political Science or related field.
§ Job experience relevant to the function: 11 years.
§ Fluency in English and Arabic.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
§ Good computer skills.
§ Completed Protection Learning Programme.
