We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Senior National Consultant (Innovation Summit)

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Purpose of the Assignment

  • The purpose of this term of reference (TOR) is to support the country office technical team to drive innovation using proof of concepts and lessons learnt from impactful research/projects implemented in previous years in the light of the new organizational strategy and contribute to business development.

Scope of the Assignment

  • The scope of the technical assistance involves supporting a brainstorming workshop on innovation for the country office technical team using an appropriate framework to generate innovative concepts/ideas that can be developed into proposals.
  • The TA will also support the review of existing proofs of concept with the view to developing them further in the pathway for adoption and scale-up.

Specific tasks:
The review of existing proofs of concept and development of innovative concepts/ideas will be led by one (1) Senior National Consultant to carry out these specific tasks:

  • Familiarisation with the new Malaria Consortium strategy 2025-2028 and NMEP’s strategy for malaria control.
  • Desk review of previous projects, existing proof of concept in preparation for a robust brainstorming workshop on innovation to generate innovative concepts/ideas
  • Coordinate the brainstorming workshop on innovation to generate innovative concepts/ideas that align with the new strategy and are relevant in the Nigerian context.
  • Submission of the compilation of innovative concepts and ideas that can be developed into proposals.
  • Prepare a report of the consultancy.

  • Workshop Report
  • Consultancy report

Qualifications and experience

  • PhD or equivalent experience in Public/Global Health, Implementation Science, Health Systems, Health Policy and Planning or related field is required.
  • Have at least 10 years’ experience in implementation science, health policy and health system strengthening in public health-related programmes, preferably in areas related to implementation research.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience of working with Ministries of Health, NMEP, SMEP, NPHCDA, SPHCDA, other government sectors, donor agencies and/or implementing partners.
  • Excellent knowledge of malaria prevention and control in endemic settings, current global realities, National malaria elimination strategies and health systems strengthening strategies.
  • Excellent technical writing and facilitating skills are highly required.
  • Availability for the period of this assignment.
  • Ability to give attention to details.
  • Self-motivated, team player but also able to work independently.
  • Meets tight deadlines and able to work under pressure.

Malaria Consortium is an international non-profit organisation specialising in the comprehensive control of malaria and other communicable diseases – particularly those affecting children under five. Its headquarters are in the United Kingdom, with regional offices in Africa and Asia, and country offices in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, South Sudan, Thailand and Uganda. Malaria Consortium has until recently also worked in Ghana, Senegal and Zambia.

Established in 2003, Malaria Consortium works in Africa and Asia and aims to combat malaria and neglected tropical diseases and improve child health. It is a specialist technical organisation that works with governments and partners to strengthen health service delivery.

Malaria control is central to Malaria Consortium’s strategy, but the organisation also undertakes complementary work on child health, including integrated community case management of childhood illness, nutrition and the control of neglected tropical diseases. The organisation aims to improve access to healthcare for communities in Africa and Asia, including children under five, pregnant women and migrant populations.

It supports a range of programmes in disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment; disease control and elimination; health systems strengthening; research, monitoring and evaluation and surveillance; behaviour change communication: and national and international advocacy, and policy development.

Malaria Consortium began as a research consortium within the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and was originally funded solely by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), (the Overseas Development Administration before 1997).

Malaria Consortium publishes research in open access and scholarly journals. The organisation also produces learning materials which aim to support the advancement of policy and practice.
