Job Description

DevWorks International (DevWorks) is recruiting for a Senior Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Advisor for the anticipated USAID Nigeria Borno WASH Activity. The overall purpose of the USAID Borno WASH activity is to increase safe, sustainable, climate resilient and inclusive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Services in communities, schools, and healthcare centers in Nigeria. The project will take an integrated participatory approach, engaging the government, local communities, and target beneficiaries in the design and implementation of activities.

The Senior WASH Advisor will be responsible for managing the operational and programmatic components of the project in country by ensuring consistency with DevWorks’ standard operating procedures, policies and accounting principles, and compliance with USAID regulations. S/he, will, in coordination with the Chief of Party, be responsible for managing the project’s technical intervention strategy, work planning, and activity design. S/he will have direct oversight and management of the technical advisory team. S/he will provide technical direction and support to interventions across all objectives and will act as the Deputy Chief of Party.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten (8) years of progressive experience and responsibility in designing, managing, and implementing WASH programs.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working on USAID-funded projects.
  • Will have excellent management skills and good knowledge of USG procedures and policies, agreement compliance, financial planning and management, procurement, sub award management, and other management support areas/functions, including the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
  • Must have solid foundation in a broad range of WASH subjects preferred, including areas such as innovative sanitation, water for the poor, tariff and cost recovery, hygiene promotion, operation and maintenance, institutional strengthening and sector reforms.
  • Master’s degree in water resources management, water engineering, international development, environment, or related field of study.
  • Previous experience in Nigeria is required.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English required. Fluency in Kanuri is preferred.
