In Uganda we support the recovery and restoration of people affected by humanitarian crises and to cultivate and nurture resilience and build agency while establishing systems and partnerships to reduce the risk of future disasters. We work in 2 geographical locations in Uganda. In Northwestern Uganda in the Palorinya refugee settlement and Southwestern Uganda in the Nakivale Settlement. We hereby present an exciting position for anyone who would like to use their teaching and leadershipskills to enhance our work.

About the Position:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior English Instructor to oversee, develop, and deliver high-quality English language instruction. This individual will be responsible for designing course materials, supervising junior instructors, and actively participating in coordination and planning meetings. The Senior English Instructor will also contribute to the development of proposals for new English courses and ensure the overall success of the Language Bridging project within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Course Oversight and Instruction:
  • Lead and oversee the entire English language program, ensuring courses meet educational objectives and standards.
  • Design, develop, and continuously refine curriculum and teaching materials for English courses, ensuring they are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with the program’s goals.
  • Teach English courses to learners of various levels, providing engaging and effective lessons that meet students’ language needs.
  • Use a variety of teaching methodologies, tools, and resources to enhance learning outcomes.

2. Instructor Supervision and Development:

  • Supervise, mentor, and provide ongoing support to junior English instructors.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations of instructors, offering constructive feedback and opportunities for professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative teaching environment, ensuring all instructors are aligned with the program’s standards and objectives.

3. Program Coordination and Collaboration:

  • Actively participate in regular coordination meetings with other partners, departments and teams to ensure alignment of the English program with organizational goals and needs.
  • Coordinate scheduling, assessments, and any necessary adjustments to the curriculum in response to student feedback or changing needs.
  • Ensure the engagement of the community in the activities by coordinating and/ or conducting community outreach and student registration.

4. Proposal Writing and Course Development:

  • Develop and write detailed proposals for new English courses or course modifications based on emerging needs or feedback.
  • Work with leadership to establish goals, timelines, and budgets for new course initiatives.
  • Analyze program effectiveness and recommend improvements or new approaches to course design.

5. Reporting and Evaluation:

  • Regularly assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from students and instructors to enhance the quality of the English program.
  • Prepare and submit reports on course performance, instructor performance, and overall program effectiveness.

Essential skills, knowledge, and competencies

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, Linguistics, or a related field; a master’s degree or higher is an added advantage.
  • 6 years of experience in English language instruction, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of English language pedagogy and instructional design.
  • Experience with curriculum development and material creation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead a team and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to assess and address the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience in proposal writing and course development is a plus

Languages:
