Duration: This is a part-time 10-month role. The project ends in April 2026
Start Date: July 2025
Fee Range: 725 EUR/month

Who We Are

We’re a social enterprise with a simple mission: to transform the lives of vulnerable people. Through our programmes rooted in tech, psychology and behaviour change, we help people build vital skills and confidence so they can make a positive contribution to their communities. It’s how we support governments and other donors in finding solutions to irregular migration, poverty, human trafficking, violent extremism and more. Our expertise is in strategic communications, counselling, consulting, monitoring and evaluation, and research. We work in East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, East Africa, North Africa, the Sahel and Europe.

About the Project

The SAFE-MIT (Supporting Alternatives for Empowered Migration Informed Transitions) project supports vulnerable populations in making safer, better-informed migration decisions. In Kenya, the campaign focuses on youth and potential migrants in high-risk communities, particularly in urban informal settlements and underserved counties, who face economic and social pressures to migrate irregularly. By offering realistic information on migration risks and promoting viable local alternatives, SAFE-MIT aims to reduce exploitation, including trafficking and smuggling.

Role Summary

We are recruiting a part-time, remote Social Media Officer based in Kenya to manage digital outreach for the SAFE-MIT campaign. The ideal candidate has proven experience managing campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, and is fluent in English and Swahili.

You will lead the creation and management of locally tailored content to inform and engage at-risk communities, track digital performance, and ensure alignment with behaviour change goals.

Primary Responsibilities

Project and Campaign Implementation (90%)

  • Manage day-to-day content for SAFE-MIT Kenya’s social media platforms.
  • Create culturally appropriate posts, videos, and visual materials in English and Swahili.
  • Develop and execute digital promotion strategies to reach youth in high-migration areas such as Nairobi, Mombasa, and border counties.
  • Respond to comments and private messages with empathy and accuracy.
  • Work with creative teams to produce story-based content aligned with behavioural insights.
  • Search for and liaise with one local influencer to amplify campaign content and messages.
  • Track and report on engagement, reach, and campaign performance.
  • Adjust digital strategies in response to analytics and emerging online trends.
  • Liaise with the Strategic Communications Lead and M&E teams to align messaging and monitor impact.
  • Suggest ideas to improve the channels’ performance and encourage followers to engage.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest trends within the online and social media landscape.

Program Development (5%)

  • Support refinement of digital outreach strategies in Kenya based on field insights and user feedback.

Organisational Contribution (5%)

  • Represent Seefar’s values in all activities.
  • Cooperate with other areas of the Migration Program and Enterprise, including communicating substantive and administrative information that supports corporate management overall. For example, this would include ensuring effective internal reporting at the project level.
  • Report to the Strategic Communications Lead for supervision and guidance.

Essential Requirements

Before you start, you should confirm you meet these minimum requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in social media management, preferably in development or advocacy.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili, with excellent written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Kenya’s migration dynamics, especially in Nairobi, Mombasa, and border regions such as Busia and Turkana.
