The Opportunity
This post is part of the global SRHR Hub team, and contributes to global SRHR initiatives and programme and influence work. It supports the linkages between country programmes and the regional level, and links to the global SRHR network, supporting the development and delivery of quality technical standards, models, frameworks and external influencing efforts. It supports cross-organisational networking by sharing information and providing peer support.
It also provides technical support on sexual and reproductive health and rights programming to country offices in West and Central Africa (WACA), with a particular focus on a new EU-funded project in six countries (“My Health, My Rights: Promoting Universal SRHR of vulnerable adolescents in West Africa”). The role has a thematic focus on programmes strengthening Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and age- and gender-responsive SRH services. It provides technical services to Plan International and its partners for capacity development, and quality project monitoring, evaluation and research for SRHR.
The role thus has a triple mandate:
- Global technical work and programme support to country offices (30%)
- Direct technical support to the EU programme in six country offices in WACA (50%)
- Work closely with the West and Central Africa (WACA) Regional SRHR Specialist to promote organisational learning and technical excellence in the region, and support exchange between country, regional and global levels (20%)
The Individual
- Qualified to at least university-level degree and have considerable work experience in SRHR
- Strong technical knowledge and understanding of the concept of sexual and reproductive health and rights and its application in development and/or humanitarian programming targeting vulnerable and excluded children, adolescents and youth; and practical experience in applying these concepts in projects and programmes
- Experience and ability to apply a range of evidence-based strategies and approaches to provide children, adolescent, youth with quality comprehensive sexuality education (CSE), and strengthen access to the full range of age- and gender-responsive SRH services, and practical experience in providing technical support and advice to field staff.
- Strong understanding of the concept of gender equality and its relationship with sexual and reproductive health and rights, and personal commitment to gender equality and inclusion
- Understanding linkages between gender-based violence, harmful practices, SRHR and social and gender norm change, as well as their practical implications for programme interventions
- Ability to use evidence, data and analysis to make choices and drive change
- Understanding and application of principles and quality standards of programme and project design, and results-based monitoring and evaluation
- Strong communications and knowledge management skills, and ability to share knowledge and learning from activities and evaluation, especially through supporting active networking internally and externally and the development of knowledge products
- Ability to use our digital environment and tools to access information and to communicate and network with others
- Ability to adjust approaches, communication style and behaviour to work effectively across cultures and with diverse stakeholders and communities
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to nurture fruitful relationships, and work in a flexible, networked way with effective internal and external stakeholder engagement
- Strong initiative with the ability to work independently and solve problems with limited supervision
- Excellent command of English and French, both speaking and writing. Portuguese language skills would be an asset.
- Experience working in at least one West African country context

Type of Role: Two year fixed term contract. Employment will be via the Country Office in the base location and national terms and conditions will apply.
