Context

UNAIDS is committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of its staff members globally. This assignment involves providing tele-counselling services under the supervision of the UNAIDS Staff Counsellor. The role includes offering counselling in various languages, preparing educational materials and seminars, referring complex cases to the Staff Counsellor, participating in supervision and team meetings, maintaining confidential records, and submitting monthly statistics and an end-of-assignment report. Adherence to confidentiality and professional standards is essential, along with performing any other required duties.

Task description

Within the delegated authority, clinical and technical supervision to be provided by the UNAIDS Staff Counsellor.

  • Provide tele-counselling services in allocated global locations and languages;
  • Offer and participate in the preparation of education material and seminars;
  • Refer on to Staff Counsellor for complex mental health issues;

Participate in supervision and team meetings (clinical supervision needs to be setup and provided);

  • Maintain confidential records and submit monthly statistics as agreed and end of assignment report;
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional practice standards;
  • Support UNAIDS in strengthening its staff wellbeing and welfare.
  • Develop appropriate informative information tools regarding staff counselling;
  • Any other duties as required.

Skills and experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in psychology (clinical, counselling or health), counselling, or psychiatry. Fluent in English and French mandatory; at least one other language is strongly preferred – with preference for Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Kiswahili.

  • Experience in psychology (clinical, counselling or health), counselling, or psychiatry an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Experience in Mental health is mandatory;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others), email, and internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Desirable: valid national driver’s license and proven ability to drive manual gear 4×4 over rough terrain;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in UNAIDS’ work, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN system.

Living conditions and remarks

Rabat, the capital, is a peaceful city. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily-available. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas although COVID19 sanitary measures are in application. A large variety of accommodation options can be found. There are no specific security threats.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.

Entitlements related to the volunteering position: 1. Pre-assignment

Entry lump sum: USD 400

Relocation costs: $200 at beginning and end of assignment if duty station is outside of commuting distance (as determined by UNV)

Volunteer living allowance: MAD 12721.16

Learning: Access to UNV’s learning and career development resources

Annual leave: 2.5 days per month
