CARING – INNOVATING – TOGETHER:
Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 13 million patients. Today ALIMA works in 14 countries in Western and Central Africa and extended to support the emergency in Haiti. In 2022, we developed 62 humanitarian medical response projects to meet the needs of populations affected by conflict, epidemics and extreme poverty. All of these projects support national health authorities through nearly 511 health structures. We work in partnership, especially with local NGOs, whenever possible to ensure that our patients benefit from the expertise wherever it is, whether in their country or the rest of the world. In addition, to improve the humanitarian response, we are carrying out operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the field of the fight against malnutrition and hemorrhagic viral fevers. ALIMA is also leading operations in response to the covid-19 pandemic across all of our missions.
ALIMA’S TEAM: More than 2000 people currently work for ALIMA. The field teams, as close as possible to the patients, receive their support from the coordination teams generally based in the capitals of the countries of intervention. These receive support from the 4 desk teams and the emergency and opening service team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The Paris and New York teams are actively working on fundraising as well as representing ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA Galaxy includes individuals and partner teams who work on behalf of other organisations such as medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERTE Santé, SOS Médecins / KEOOGO, AMCP, research organisations PACCI, INSERM, Universities of Bordeaux or Copenhagen, the NGO Solidarités International, and many others.
COUNTRIES WHERE WE WORK: Mali, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Guinea,South Sudan, Mauritania, Sudan, Haïti and South Sudan.
THE WORK WE DO covers: Primary and Secondary Health Care, with a main focus on children and women – including treatment and prevention of acute malnutrition, maternal health, mental health, response to epidemics (Ebola, Cholera, Measles, Dengue, Lassa Fever), surgery, displaced populations, and gender based violence, Covid 19.
ALIMA IN SUDAN
ALIMA has been present in Sudan since 2021 with projects in South Kordofan and Khartoum states responding to urgent health and nutrition needs of populations affected by conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic. In 20222, ALIMA in coordination with the Ministry of Health (MOH) intervened in two localities in South Kordofan supporting Kadugli Teaching Hospital Maternity and Pediatric Units, two Primary Healthcare Centers (PHC) and mobile clinics, including rapid response mobile clinic for the influx of IDPs at Kadugli Bus Station IDP Camp. ALIMA also strengthened capacity for optimal case management of severe COVID-19 cases by increasing access to medical oxygen at Al Shaab Teaching Hospital, a 350 bed specialist hospital designated as a COVID-19 Treatment Center in Khartoum. ALIMA installed a PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) Oxygen Plant delivering medical oxygen directly to operating theater and general wards. Additionally, ALIMA conducted training with MOH staff on oxygen therapy for optimal case management and on preventive and curative maintenance of key biomedical equipment.
Since the escalation of conflict in April 2023, ALIMA has been responding to the emergency health and nutrition needs in South Kordofan and is in the process of opening a new project in North Darfur. ALIMA plans to scale up emergency response for the influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs) El Fasher, North Darfur with support to primary health care facilities in IDP Camps, a nutrition Stabilization Center, and mobile clinics. In South Kordofan, ALIMA continues to support life saving healthcare at Kaduli Teaching Hospital, 2 PHCs, and mobile clinics. ALIMA will implement additional nutrition activities by establishing outpatient therapeutic programs (OTPs) to treat severe acute malnutrition at all supported health facilities in 2023.

Level 3: As part of his/her duties, the incumbent will visit programs and come into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, a criminal record check or a certificate of good character will be required. In situations where a criminal record check or character reference is not possible, a declaration of honor will be requested.
MISSION AND MAIN ACTIVITIES
Main Job Objectives:
To ensure high quality medical care for humanitarian staff working within catchment areas defined according to ALIMA’s humanitarian response strategy in Sudan, by implementing a comprehensive health management system that prioritizes proactive disease prevention, ensures rapid and high-quality clinical stabilization in emergencies, and guarantees continuity of care through a safe and seamless medical evacuation process.
Job Description:
Preventative Care (The Proactive Shield) for humanitarian workers
- Health monitoring: Organization of personalized health checkups and screenings tailored to individual risks.
- Vaccination Programs: Managing immunizations for endemic diseases or travel-related risks.
- Wellness Initiatives: Implementing mental health support.
Medical management of common pathologies and monitoring of chronic diseases among humanitarian workers.
- Provides medical consultations and treatments
- Ensures the availability of essential medications and biomedical equipment
- Provides rapid medical diagnostic investigations and point-of-care services
- Ensure proper documentation in the patient file including the final diagnosis at discharge that will be recorded in praxis.
- Ensure strict adherence to medical ethics and confidentiality
- Ensure continuous monitoring and improvement of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) practices within ALIMA’s service delivery points.
Clinical Stabilization (The Immediate Response)
- Provides emergency medical care for unstable patients
- Stabilizes unstable patients prior to medical evacuation
- Ensures the availability of medicines and equipment, point-of-care laboratory testing for the management of unstable patients.
- Ensure proper documentation in the patient file including the final diagnostic at discharge that will be recorded in praxis.
Medical Evacuation – MEDEVAC (The Critical Link)
Ensuring the safety and efficiency of patient transport to a specialized hospital.
- Managing the network with the various services and organizations involved, including receiving hospitals.
- Ensuring the availability of a fully equipped ambulance.
- Ensuring the presence of medical personnel during patient transport.
- Managing the “bed-to-bed” transfer process, including formalities, authorizations, and the transmission of medical information.
- Risk assessment: Determining alert thresholds at which a patient’s condition exceeds local capacity and requires immediate transfer.
Other activities:
- Apart from activities related to staff health, he provides support to project care activities by ensuring the medical care of patients, supervising activities, participating in ward rounds, etc.
- Knows and ensures all ALIMA medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
- Attendance and active participation in weekly medical and project meetings
- Contributes to the development of monthly activity reports, donor proposals, and active representation of ALIMA within relevant forums.
- Any other task as deemed necessary by the supervisor but in line with overall job responsibilities.
- Reporting: Reports related to the activities shall be registered in a special book. Monthly data collection for patient referrals, patient education sessions, doctor and nurse consultations, and missed appointmentsMonthly data collection on number of dressings done.

Required Qualifications:
Training: Registered medical doctor with Active medical practice licences in country of origin
Skills/Competencies :
- Strong expertise in providing medical care to adults.

- Travel costs between the expatriate’s country of origin and the mission location
- Accommodation costs
- Medical cover from the first day of the contract to a month after the date of departure from the mission country for the employee and their dependents
