Background

The Nordic International Support Foundation (NIS) works to support improved security, environmental health, and stability through the realisation of the principles underpinning the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The Foundation’s work has a global focus, tailoring programmes to fit the needs and circumstances specific to the operating environment, ranging from conflict-affected countries to developed countries, including Norway. The Foundation has its HQ office in Oslo, as well as teams located in several programme country offices. This consultancy is linked to the Foundations office and personnel in Somalia country office (CO).

As part of its ongoing commitment to organizational development and staff capacity building, the organization is undertaking a comprehensive training initiative focused on enhancing staff management skills. This initiative aligns with the organization’s strategic goals of improving workplace staff management, performance, strengthening team collaboration, and fostering a positive and results-oriented work culture.

Objective of the Training

The primary objective of this consultancy is to engage a qualified external consultant to design and deliver comprehensive staff management training for Somalia CO Management team. The training aims to:

  • Enhance leadership and people management skills.
  • Improve performance appraisal processes and feedback mechanisms.
  • Strengthen internal communication.
  • Improve conflict resolution capabilities/techniques and enhance ability to manage interpersonal challenges constructively.

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the training, participants are expected to:

  • Demonstrate improved understanding of effective staff management principles.
  • Apply structured approaches to performance appraisals and coaching.
  • Use clear and constructive communication techniques.
  • Strengthen accountability and workplace engagement.
  • Enhance staff productivity.
  • Improved Feedback mechanisms

Training Areas to Be Covered

The training should cover, but not be limited to, the following thematic areas:

1. Fundamentals of Staff Management

  • Leadership styles
  • Situational leadership
  • Managing expectations
  • Leading by example
  • Delegation and empowerment
  • Responsibility and accountability
  • Followership and Personal Responsibility

2. Performance Appraisals

  • Goal Setting
  • SMART objectives
  • Constructive feedback and evaluation techniques
  • 360 performance management

3. Communication and Conflict Resolution

  • Active listening
  • Nonviolent communication
  • Conflict resolutions and handling difficult conversations.
  • Inclusivity in decision making.

Deliverables

The Consultant will be expected to deliver the following:

  1. Training Proposal including methodology, detailed work plan with timelines, and tools. As well, financial proposal which includes an indicative budget (maximum 1 page), inclusive of the consultant’s daily rate(s) and related expenses. Rates should be in US Dollars.
  2. Training Materials including handouts, presentation slides, group discussions points.
  3. Implementation of Training
  4. Training Report including summary of sessions, feedback analysis, and recommendations to follow up next.

Required Qualifications of the Consultant

  1. Advanced degree in Human Resource Management, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or another related field.
  2. Proven track record in UN or INGO experience in HR management trainings.
  3. Minimum 10 years of experience in delivering staff management or leadership development workshops or organizational capacity building.
  4. Strong facilitation, communication, and adult learning skills.
  5. Willing to travel to Somalia if outside of Somalia.
  6. Excellent report writing and presentation skills in English and Somali.

Note: The consultant will be responsible for their own security, travel, insurance, accommodation, and communication arrangements.
