1. Background
Nomadic Assistance for Peace and Development (NAPAD) intends to produce a high-quality documentary video that presents a project’s achievements, beneficiary perspectives, partnerships, and contribution to sustainable human development. NAPAD therefore seeks to engage a qualified Videographer/Video Production Consultant to work with the NAPAD Communications Team in planning, filming, editing, and delivering the final video products.
2. Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to produce a compelling documentary-style video that presents the project in a clear, professional, and engaging manner. It should highlight the project’s results, the voices of beneficiaries, and NAPAD’s contribution to resilience, social cohesion, and sustainable human development.
3. Objectives
The consultant shall be responsible for producing a documentary package that meets the following objectives:
- Produce one documentary video of exactly 2 minutes.
- Capture professional video footage and photographs of project activities, beneficiaries, and infrastructure.
- Present evidence of project results in food security, livelihoods, WASH, climate resilience, women’s and youth empowerment, and peacebuilding.
- Develop human-interest stories that demonstrate project impact.
- Include branding, subtitles, graphics, statistics, maps, and voice-over narration where appropriate.
- Produce materials suitable for an international audience and high-level award ceremony use.
4. Scope of Work
The consultant will work closely with the NAPAD Communications Team and shall carry out the following tasks:
4.1 Pre-production
- Review relevant project documents, reports, photographs, and communication materials.
- Hold inception and planning meetings with NAPAD management and communications staff.
- Develop the creative concept, storyline, script, and storyboard.
- Identify beneficiaries, staff, and stakeholders to be featured.
- Prepare interview guides and filming schedules.
- Develop a production plan, including equipment and logistical arrangements.
4.2 Production
- Carry out professional filming and photography at project sites identified by NAPAD.
- Capture footage relating to the following thematic areas:
- Food security and livelihoods.
- Water, sanitation, and hygiene .
- Women’s and youth economic empowerment.
- Peacebuilding and social cohesion.
- Organizational leadership and partnerships.
The filming should include, where relevant and feasible:
- Irrigated farms and agricultural activities.
- Crop production and harvesting.
- Climate-smart agriculture practices.
- Beekeeping and apiculture initiatives.
- Agroforestry activities.
- Food processing and value addition facilities.
- Solar-powered water systems.
- Water storage and distribution points.
- Women-owned micro-enterprises.
- Youth livelihood initiatives.
- Self-help and savings groups.
- Peace committees, dialogue forums, and awareness activities.
- Interviews with the Executive Director, project staff, government officials, community leaders, beneficiaries, and partners.
The consultant may use drone footage (drone provided by NAPAD) where appropriate and where authorized in line with applicable regulations.
4.3 Post-production
- Review raw footage with the NAPAD Communications Team.
- Edit the material into the final documentary products.
- Develop graphics, infographics, maps, and visual effects where appropriate.
- Add English and Arabic subtitles and titles.
- Record and integrate professional voice-over narration.
- Conduct color correction, sound mixing, audio enhancement, and final mastering.
- Apply NAPAD branding and partner recognition.
- Incorporate feedback and complete final revisions.
5. Key Messages
The video should clearly communicate the following messages:
5.1 The challenge and Situation Before
Communities in Somalia and or northern Kenya continue to face drought, climate shocks, food insecurity, water scarcity, conflict over natural resources, displacement, poverty, and limited livelihood opportunities.
5.2 The response
NAPAD has responded through integrated interventions centred on a solar-powered Integrated Water Resource Management model that supports climate-smart agriculture and household water access. The model has contributed to livelihood diversification, women’s and youth economic empowerment, and the promotion of community-based peacebuilding initiatives for the management of water resource-related conflicts.
5.3 The results
The documentary should highlight:
- Increased agricultural productivity.
- Expanded irrigated land.
- Improved household food security.
- Reduced post-harvest losses.
- Increased household incomes.
- Improved access to water.
- Stronger participation of women and youth in economic activities.
- Reduced conflict and improved social cohesion.
- Greater resilience among vulnerable communities.
5.4 Sustainability
The video should show that community structures, water management committees, peace committees, women’s groups, youth groups, and value-addition initiatives are functional and capable of sustaining results beyond the project period.
6. Deliverables
The consultant shall deliver the following outputs:
6.1 Inception package
- Inception report.
- Detailed work plan.
- Storyboard.
- Draft script.
- Interview guides.
6.2 Raw production materials
- All raw video footage.
- Drone footage, where applicable.
- High-resolution photographs.
6.3 Documentary video
- Maximum duration: Two minutes.
- The video should be in English.
- MP4 Format.
- 2K or full HD Quality (Frame width should be 2048*1080 or 1920*1080)
- High-resolution photos and same dimensions.
- Somali translation to English subtitles.
7. Duration
The assignment shall be completed within 7 working days from the date of contract signing.
8. Reporting and Supervision
The consultant shall report directly to the Executive Director and work under the day-to-day guidance of the NAPAD Communications Team. The Communications Team shall provide relevant project documents, branding guidelines, access to project locations and stakeholders, and technical feedback on draft products.
9. Required Qualifications and Experience
The consultant or firm should meet the following minimum requirements:
9.1 Academic qualification
- Diploma or degree in Film Production, Videography, Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Communication, Digital Media, or a related field.
9.2 Professional experience
- At least five years of proven experience in professional videography and documentary production.
- Experience producing documentaries, promotional videos, success stories, and communication products for NGOs, development agencies, UN agencies, or donor-funded projects.
- Experience documenting programmes in food security, livelihoods, WASH, climate resilience, women’s empowerment, humanitarian action, and peacebuilding.
- Experience working with rural, marginalized, and vulnerable communities.
- Strong storytelling and visual communication skills.
- Experience in conducting interviews and developing human-interest stories.
9.3 Technical competencies
- Fluency in Somali and English.
- Advanced videography and photography skills.
- Strong video editing skills using professional software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe After Effects, or equivalent.
- Skills in motion graphics, animation, subtitles, and infographic development.
- Ability to operate a drone, where permitted by regulations.
- Professional audio recording and sound editing skills.
- Ability to produce broadcast-quality and event-quality video products.
- Ability to communicate effectively with communities and stakeholders in Somalia and Kenya.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project locations in Somalia and Kenya, including remote and hard-to-reach areas, subject to access and security conditions.
- Possession of a valid passport and availability to travel at short notice if required.
- Flexibility to accommodate revisions within agreed timelines.
- Experience working in Somalia, Kenya, or similar humanitarian and development contexts in the Horn of Africa.
- Previous experience producing documentaries for international organizations, donor-funded projects, NGOs, or development agencies in Somalia will be an added advantage.
- Ability to independently script, film, edit, subtitle, and finalize professional documentary productions from concept to completion.

12. Intellectual Property and Confidentiality
All video footage, photographs, interviews, scripts, edited products, graphics, and other materials produced under this assignment shall remain the sole property of NAPAD. The selected consultant shall not publish, distribute, reproduce, or use any of the materials produced under this assignment without prior written approval from NAPAD.
The consultant will sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement before the assignment begins and will treat all project information, documents, photographs, videos, beneficiary data, and communication materials as confidential. The consultant shall also ensure that all team members engaged under the assignment comply with confidentiality and data protection requirements. The dignity, privacy, and informed consent of all beneficiaries and interviewees must be protected at all times.
13. Travel Requirements
The consultant must be willing and available to travel to project locations in Somalia and Mandera county, Kenya as required. NAPAD will support coordination and access to relevant project teams and stakeholders, while the consultant will remain responsible for travel documents, professional equipment, insurance, and other personal and operational requirements necessary for the assignment. Experience working in Somalia and other fragile or humanitarian contexts will be considered an advantage.
