The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) promotes sustainable and equitable transport worldwide. ITDP has played a role in several projects in the African region, including the implementation of high-quality bus rapid transit (BRT) systems, cycling networks, and pedestrian projects. ITDP played a pivotal role in the implementation of Johannesburg’s silver-standard Rea Vaya BRT corridors and in Cape Town’s MyCiTi BRT. ITDP also supported the development of the Dar Rapid Transit BRT system in Dar es Salaam. ITDP is currently preparing a Sustainable Mobility Plan for the city of Kisumu and working on street designs to reclaim street space for pedestrians in Ruiru.

About the position

Based in Cairo, Egypt, for a one-year term, the Transport Planning Consultant will play a key role in the conceptualisation, design, and implementation of sustainable transport solutions. The Consultant’s primary work area will be technical analysis for the Cairo BRT project, and may also include projects related to street design, parking management, and urban development policy. The job will entail a significant amount of fieldwork, including site visits and supervision of surveys. The candidate must have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Arabic. The Consultant will analyse primary and secondary transport data, prepare conceptual designs, and monitor project implementation. S/he will work closely with governments, consultants, and partner organisations. The Transport Planning Consultant will be based in Cairo and will report to the Africa Program Director. S/he will work closely with head office staff, international experts, and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) office in Cairo.
