About One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers to make their farms more productive. Across nine countries that together are home to two-thirds of Africa’s farmers, we provide high-quality farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a wide range of other agricultural services. On average, this model enables any farmer to increase their income and assets on supported land by more than 35 percent, while permanently improving their resilience. This is all made possible by our team of 9,000+ full-time staff, drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. To learn more, please see our Why Work Here blog post.

Our Kenya program, founded in 2006, operates under the local brand Tupande. Close to 500 staff in our Kakamega headquarters support 1,747 field staff and serve more than 1 million farmers. In Nairobi, around 50 staff support global functions like procurement, recruitment, government relations, and communications

About the Role

The Extension and Aggregation Supervisor – Roaming serves as the primary operational link between Tupande and the farming communities. This is a frontline, customer facing role responsible for delivering high quality extension services, ensuring farmer compliance with market and certification standards and driving efficient aggregation operations.

Responsibilities

Market Readiness & Compliance

  • Develop a deep understanding of evolving market, buyer, and certification requirements for both avocado and macadamia (and any future crops as assigned).
  • Guide farmers in meeting food safety, hygiene, and health standards applicable to each crop.
  • Maintain updated and accurate production, training, and compliance records across all assigned territories.

Farmer Training & Extension Services

  • Train farmers and farmer groups on crop production best practices, pest and disease intervention methods, and quality standards.
  • Lead training on certification requirements and prepare farmers for internal and external audits.
  • Carry out regular farm visits, risk assessments, and crop scouting for both avocado and macadamia.

Certification Preparation & Support

  • Register and prepare farmers for certification processes as defined by the Market Access team.
  • Coordinate certification timelines, training sessions, inspections, and audits across the expanded territories.
  • Ensure all assigned farmers maintain compliance and continuously improve their standards.

Aggregation, Sourcing and Logistics Enablement

  • Act as a roaming aggregation agent, supporting multiple zones and stepping into new territories as needed.
  • Identify farmers producing both avocado and macadamia, directing them appropriately:
  • Avocado: support harvesting planning, coordination with field logistics teams, and alignment with export requirements.
  • Macadamia: direct farmers to designated buying centers and support smooth procurement processes.
  • Serve as a cornerstone of operational logistics—ensuring timely aggregation, farmer readiness, and efficient flow of product from farm to buying center/export pipeline.
  • Support optimization of buying centers and macadamia sourcing processes within assigned and rotating areas.

Reporting & Performance Tracking

  • Prepare clear, timely reports for supervisors detailing field activities, certification progress, farmer status, and operational needs across all covered zones.
  • Build and grow a strong farmer base by achieving targets for farmer recruitment, compliance, and production readiness.
  • Provide field intelligence to inform procurement, planning, and market access strategies.

Mobility & Flexibility

  • Cover multiple territories as assigned, acting as a roaming agent to address operational priorities.
  • Be adaptable to location changes including temporary reassignment to other regions depending on volume, seasonality, and business needs.
  • Support cross-regional collaboration and step into new areas quickly and effectively.

Additional Duties

  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the manager in line with operational objectives and evolving company strategy.

One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi.

Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2015, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 300% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

One Acre Fund offers smallholder farmers an asset-based loan that includes: 1) distribution of seeds and fertilizer; 2) financing for farm inputs; 3) training on agriculture techniques; and 4) market facilitation to maximize profits. Each service bundle is around US$80 in value and includes crop insurance to mitigate the risks of drought and disease.

To receive the One Acre Fund loan and training, farmers must join a village group that is supported by a local One Acre Fund field officer. Field officers meet regularly with the farmer groups to coordinate delivery of farm inputs, administer trainings and to collect repayments. One Acre Fund offers a flexible repayment system: farmers may pay back their loans in any increment at any time during the growing season. Beyond their core program model, One Acre Fund also offers smallholder farmers opportunities to purchase additional products and services on credit. These include solar lights and reusable sanitary pads.
