Our Kenya program, founded in 2006, operates under the local brand Tupande. Close to 500 staff in our Kakamega headquarters support 1,747 field staff and serve more than 1 million farmers. In Nairobi, around 50 staff support global functions like procurement, recruitment, government relations, and communications.

About the Role

The Production Senior Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the full production process from raw material receiving to finished product packing, ensuring operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with customer requirements, food safety, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Macadamia Processing (Daily Operations)

  • Supervise all production activities from NIS drying, processing, and packaging of the finished products.
  • Adhere to the daily, weekly and monthly production plans and schedules to ensure production targets are met.
  • Ensure all lines start on time and meet hourly throughput targets
  • Optimize use of labor, materials, and equipment to minimize waste and losses
  • Ensure proper segregation of material on process based on lots, grades and styles in all steps as is achieved.
  • Ensure data is collected at every production step to enhance proper traceability of the products.
  • Ensure all sorted kernels meet the international standard from grading to packing; and packed within 48 hours after cracking.
  • Investigate and report production variances and implement corrective actions.

Appointed as a food safety team member

  • Ensure that information on internal communication is included in the updating of the Food Safety Management System; this shall include information in your department relevant to the FSMS that FST is mandated to be aware of, for example, any changes or improvements.
  • Verification of the accuracy of the flow diagrams by on-site checking,
  • Maintaining records of verified flow diagrams, corrections, and corrective actions.
  • Conduct a hazard analysis to determine which hazards need to be controlled, the degree of control required to ensure food safety, and which combination of control measures is required.
  • Analysis of the results of the verification activities,
  • Plan and implement the processes needed to validate control measures and/or control measure combinations and to verify and improve the Food Safety Management System.
  • Systematically evaluate the individual results of planned verification,
  • Analyse the results of verification activities, including the results of the internal audits and external audits,
  • Evaluate the Food Safety Management System at planned intervals to assist top management to ensure that the Food Safety Management System is continually updatedrial movements, sampling, personnel and equipment’s swabs analysis.

Leadership and employee development.

  • Supervise factory production employees and allocate duties accordingly.
  • Periodically appraise, train and develop all production employees on macadamia processing.
  • Handle any employee grievances before communicating the grievances to the manager.
  • Responsible for routine implementation of all company policies and procedures in the factory.

Skills:

  • Ability to supervise and motivate staff across shifts-Should have been in a supervision role for at least one year.
  • Ability to use spreadsheets for data entry,and variance analysis.
  • Ability to assign tasks and monitor performance
  • Ability to identify production issues or bottlenecks
  • Good leadership and supervision skills- Should have been in a supervision role for at least one year.

Knowledge:

  • Should have at least 2 years of experience in the food processing industry.
  • Food safety knowledge, HACCP and good manufacturing Practices
  • Minimum: Diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Production Management, Engineering, Agriculture, or related field.

One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi.

Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2015, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 300% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

One Acre Fund offers smallholder farmers an asset-based loan that includes: 1) distribution of seeds and fertilizer; 2) financing for farm inputs; 3) training on agriculture techniques; and 4) market facilitation to maximize profits. Each service bundle is around US$80 in value and includes crop insurance to mitigate the risks of drought and disease.

To receive the One Acre Fund loan and training, farmers must join a village group that is supported by a local One Acre Fund field officer. Field officers meet regularly with the farmer groups to coordinate delivery of farm inputs, administer trainings and to collect repayments. One Acre Fund offers a flexible repayment system: farmers may pay back their loans in any increment at any time during the growing season. Beyond their core program model, One Acre Fund also offers smallholder farmers opportunities to purchase additional products and services on credit. These include solar lights and reusable sanitary pads.
