About the Role

You will ensure that One Acre Fund’s bustling warehouse operations are managed effectivity managed to support seamless inventory flow and deliveries while minimizing losses. In addition to maintaining compliance with the organizational Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Policies. You will report to the Warehouse Hub Specialist and manage a diverse team of 3 across different job levels.

Responsibilities

Essential Function #1: Inventory Management

  • Maintain accurate and stock control in adherence to Tupande inventory management policies.
  • Oversee stock quality measures to minimize inventory losses.
  • Always perform inventory counts and analyze the main causes of variances to enhance accuracy.

Essential Function #2: Managing Outbound Inventory with Transactional Integrity

  • Provide strategic oversight for order processing and distribution, ensuring understanding of standard operating procedures.
  • Guarantee prompt and accurate deliveries, maintaining rigorous reporting standards.

Essential Function #3: Guaranteeing Operational Proficiency in the Warehouse

  • Uphold standards of health, safety, hygiene, and security within the warehouse.
  • Manage warehouse space to enhance operational efficiency, prevent input mix-ups, and ensure good storage of items.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives, applying 5-S methodologies to enhance operational workflows.

Essential Function #4: Workforce Management and Operational Efficiency

  • Oversee the efficient use and maintenance of warehouse resources.
  • Foster a collaborative environment and motivate staff to achieve productivity targets.
  • Manage petty cash and process payments for casual labor, ensuring all transactions are conducted.

Knowledge:

  • Extensive experience in supply chain and logistics operations, including warehousing and fleet planning
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and manage group dynamics
  • Able to identify and solve operational challenges
  • Strong risk mitigation capabilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Operations, Business, or equivalent experience

One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi.

Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2015, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 300% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

One Acre Fund offers smallholder farmers an asset-based loan that includes: 1) distribution of seeds and fertilizer; 2) financing for farm inputs; 3) training on agriculture techniques; and 4) market facilitation to maximize profits. Each service bundle is around US$80 in value and includes crop insurance to mitigate the risks of drought and disease.

To receive the One Acre Fund loan and training, farmers must join a village group that is supported by a local One Acre Fund field officer. Field officers meet regularly with the farmer groups to coordinate delivery of farm inputs, administer trainings and to collect repayments. One Acre Fund offers a flexible repayment system: farmers may pay back their loans in any increment at any time during the growing season. Beyond their core program model, One Acre Fund also offers smallholder farmers opportunities to purchase additional products and services on credit. These include solar lights and reusable sanitary pads.
