Our Kenya program, founded in 2006, operates under the local brand Tupande. Close to 500 staff in our Kakamega headquarters support 1,747 field staff and serve more than 1 million farmers. In Nairobi, around 50 staff support global functions like procurement, recruitment, government relations, and communications

About the Role

As a Zone Supervisor, you are directly responsible for sales in your retail zone. You will play a key role in understanding the needs of our customers and help shape the future of businesses across all channels and use technology to connect with customers. You will develop an execution strategy for your assigned market and work both individually, and with your Sales team and to prospect, qualify, develop, and close new customer opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve sales, repayment, and impact targets for your zone.
  • Manage multiple sales channel performance through the entire business cycle simultaneously, working with cross-functional teams as necessary, and serve as the primary contact for all zonal performance.
  • Provide technical support and training to Shop Assistants and Field Agents by setting up and facilitating weekly meetings.
  • Define and manage task planning for Duka Assistants and Tupande Agents
  • Oversee the management of the tree nursery in the zone with a dotted reporting line to the Tree Advisor
  • Oversee and execute inventory ordering, data entry and merchandising.
  • Oversee the operation control environment at the Duka
  • Actively build your teams through hiring, training and performance management
  • Supporting planning and implementation of promotion programs for your zone.
  • Assist customers in understanding their needs, articulate key differentiators and typical customer buying journeys, and generally display a passion for our program.
  • Support your team to create sales opportunities for customers

Qualifications

One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi.

Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2015, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 300% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

One Acre Fund offers smallholder farmers an asset-based loan that includes: 1) distribution of seeds and fertilizer; 2) financing for farm inputs; 3) training on agriculture techniques; and 4) market facilitation to maximize profits. Each service bundle is around US$80 in value and includes crop insurance to mitigate the risks of drought and disease.

To receive the One Acre Fund loan and training, farmers must join a village group that is supported by a local One Acre Fund field officer. Field officers meet regularly with the farmer groups to coordinate delivery of farm inputs, administer trainings and to collect repayments. One Acre Fund offers a flexible repayment system: farmers may pay back their loans in any increment at any time during the growing season. Beyond their core program model, One Acre Fund also offers smallholder farmers opportunities to purchase additional products and services on credit. These include solar lights and reusable sanitary pads.
