Our team in Uganda is headquartered in Jinja, close to the districts we serve, and supported by a small presence in Kampala. One Acre Fund works in the eastern region of Uganda, primarily in the districts of Iganga, Jinja, Kamuli, and Buikwe

About the Role

Coordinate and support the execution of local purchasing functions of operational goods and services from suppliers for One Acre Fund farmers and program teams.

Responsibilities

Market Research

  • Conduct market research to source operational goods and services at the best value for money.
  • Upload supplier details into the organization’s supplier database.
  • Maintain long-term business relationships with the organization’s suppliers as well as identify and build new supplier relationships for new or existing products.

Purchase

  • Execute requests for quotations, supplier selection, and purchases for the Uganda program.
  • Negotiate for the best prices and payment terms for all purchased goods and services to ensure cost savings for the organization.
  • Follow-up with the Finance team to make sure suppliers are paid on time.
  • Build strong relationships with requesting departments.
  • Support the Purchasing team on supplier and category management activities.

Deliveries and client communication

  • Ensure reception of goods or delivery of services are done on time to meet set delivery timelines.
  • Establish and maintain a robust process of procurement supporting documents file management and record keeping system to facilitate donor requirements
  • Collect all purchases’ supporting documents from suppliers and share with SAP Data Administrator in a timely manner.
  • Improve customer satisfaction through the use of proactive communications – constantly keep clients updated on their requests status.

Systems and processes

  • Provide support on various procurement project executionS.
  • Work with client departments to elaborate procurement plans for their various projects.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings through upstream supplier relationships.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of work experience in a related field.
  • Experience or education in procurement/supply chain/logistics or any related field
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • A higher diploma is required; a bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Language: English is required; the local language is an asset.

One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi.

Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2015, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 300% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

One Acre Fund offers smallholder farmers an asset-based loan that includes: 1) distribution of seeds and fertilizer; 2) financing for farm inputs; 3) training on agriculture techniques; and 4) market facilitation to maximize profits. Each service bundle is around US$80 in value and includes crop insurance to mitigate the risks of drought and disease.

To receive the One Acre Fund loan and training, farmers must join a village group that is supported by a local One Acre Fund field officer. Field officers meet regularly with the farmer groups to coordinate delivery of farm inputs, administer trainings and to collect repayments. One Acre Fund offers a flexible repayment system: farmers may pay back their loans in any increment at any time during the growing season. Beyond their core program model, One Acre Fund also offers smallholder farmers opportunities to purchase additional products and services on credit. These include solar lights and reusable sanitary pads.
