Ethiopian Veterinary Association (EVA) is an autonomous, non-for-profit and non-political professional membership organization in Ethiopia, established on June 22, 1974. It has a mandate of promoting and strengthening the veterinary profession, respect professional ethics and code of conduct, and above all to safe guard the right of veterinarians. The association is re-registered and accorded legal personality by Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Agency for Civil Society Organizations with Registry Number 0495 on July 3, 2019 as Local Organization in accordance with the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No. 1113 / 2019.
The Ethiopian Veterinary Association (EVA), through the HEARD project seeks to hire a web master – web content editor for the new EVA web site. He/she would be responsible to maintain web site as required, edit and publish web contents, and sustain the existing website of the Association as an online knowledge, training resource, and publication hub.
Overall Purpose
The overall purpose of the position is to maintain the functionality of EVA’s web site (www.eva-ethiopia.org), manage its contents, publish quality resources on web pages, update and create web pages as required, control EVA web page across different browsers and devices, and provide secure and reliable online publication plat form.
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
The position holder will undertake the following major tasks:
- Manage and enrich the contents of EVA website by populating relevant information from government and non-government organizations, research institutes, international institutes, on-going and phased-out project reports and documents.
- Work with EVA and HEARD project staff to ensure the website is kept up to date through planning, collecting, classifying, organizing and editing articles, news, online resources (livestock/animal health related data) before publication on the website, as per the guidelines and directions of the project/association.
- Check web contents for accuracy and ensure that it complies with copyright and privacy regulations of EVA and HEARD Project.
- Upgrade, update and sustain existing EVA website as an online knowledge, training resource, research and publication hub.
- Design web pages, develop site layout, create navigation features, update information and integrate graphics and multimedia content.
- Debug pages and fix broken links or images.
- Liaise with and assist the Editorial Board of the Ethiopian Veterinary Journal in maintaining the functionality of the Journal Publishing Plat Form on EVJ web page.
- Oversee online registration of members and associated data base development and management.
- Regularly identify and apply improvement options and new technologies to web site.
- Maintains site appearance by developing and enforcing content and display standards; Modify contents so that it is easy to view on different devises;
- Work to link EVA web site with other governmental and international institutions’ websites / web pages as required.
- Ensures site security by setting up firewalls and login pages; Regulates and manages access rights of different users on website.
- Monitor and analyze website traffic; prepare reports or reporting systems that provide performance.
- Monitor web server and website performance; constantly seek efficiencies to improve performance.
- Address user complaints through monitoring visitor behavior by reviewing website statistics and encourage feedback by providing the means for visitors to leave comments.
- In addition, the Web Master-Web content editor will be responsible in controlling, managing, publishing updates on multiple social network of EVA (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, …)
- Provide IT support for EVA secretariat office network and internet connections update with latest and safest antivirus.
- Compile and file all online publications and productions in electronic and hard copies and produce periodic reports and suggest possible improvement to EVA and HEARD project coordination team
- Performs other duties assigned by the association.
Terms of employment:
- Initially for 1 (One) year with possibility of extension based on performance

Qualifications
- University degree in Computer Science with Excellent communication skill and experience;
- Post graduate studies and/or specific training in IT related fields (Web development, design, maintenance) would be considered as an advantageous.
General experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the domain is required
- Proven experience on managing contents of the website either in static (html, css) or dynamic or Content Management web sites is preferable (Php, Joomla, Drupal, MySql, Asp.net, Static website/html, content management systems)
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with an understanding of the special requirements of writing for the Web, such as the use of keywords, hyperlinks, navigation, and the importance of brevity;
- Ability to upgrade and update web sites, and create web pages
- Good organizational skills to collate material from multiple sources and produce web content within tight deadlines;
- Demonstrated ability to work in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team of experts,
- Excellent knowledge of English language,
- Excellent organizational, planning and communication skills.
- Specific professional experience
- Have a good understanding of the worldwide web and its components including, html, images, files (pdf), etc;
- Good understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
- Be able to producing new content and writing it in an interesting and appealing manner
- Be creative sourcing images and artwork, and commissioning photographers
- Liaising with internal departments to check on content, style and presentation
- Maintaining the site once it is live and ensuring the information is accurate
- Have excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Have a good understanding of different file types and formats
- Have a broad understanding of copyright laws
- Able to make necessary modification, including design, layout changing, amending structures.
