mothers2mothers (m2m) is an Africa-based NGO that unlocks the potential of women to eliminate paediatric AIDS and create healthy families across ten sub-Saharan African countries. m2m trains, employs, and helps empower women living with HIV to work as community healthcare workers in understaffed health centres and underserved communities. Through a peer-to-peer approach, these ‘Mentor Mothers’ deliver a range of health services, advice, and support to women and their families. Started in Cape Town, South Africa in 2001 with an initial focus on preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, m2m has innovated and built on its strengths and now provides family-centred support for a range of related health and social issues spanning pregnancy, birth, childhood, and adolescence. It also partners with governments and other NGOs on the adoption of its programme to spread the Mentor Mother Model and its benefits. m2m has a track record of scaling its services and proven impact. Youth Facilitator x4 (7 Month Fixed Term)

The role of the Youth Facilitator is to deliver virtual modular group education sessions for pregnant and parenting adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and and their partners  in Khayelitsha and Eastern Subdistrict under m2m’s Innovations Hub in Western Cape.

Key Performance Areas

Support project start-up and implementation activities

  • Support engaging with facility teams and NPOs synergies for project implementation.
  • Conduct Community stakeholder mapping for referral services and youth based organisation
  • Identify organisations/platforms for skills building/livelihood strengthening opportunities and back to school schemes
  • Establish maintain and strengthen relationships in the community
  • Work in collaboration Mentor Mothers to enrol antenatal and post-natal AGYW and ABYM in the modular sessions.
  • Be responsible for group formation, scheduling of sessions sending re session reminders and following-up on clients who miss sessions.
  • Conduct education sessions with AGYW and ABYM virtually or face to face as approptiate and in compliance with COVID-19 prevention.
  • Follow-up virtually on any questions arising with individual clients
  • Convene and manage WhatsApp groups for individual groups
  • Facilitate group sessions and document on relevant tools
  • Track ensure retention in sessions

Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement

  • Ensure group attendance and completeness of records
  • Quality control all pre and post assessment questionnaires
  • Identify, assess, document learnings and success stories

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Conduct weekly meetings and review progress against targets
  • Support collection and documentation of data and submit reports to Project Coordinator
  • Ensure, availability, proper and safe storage of client management tools

Qualification and Experience

  • Diploma or certificate in a social science field or equivalent.
  • Degree in a related field will be added advantage
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience in community work or working with different stakeholders within community

Competencies

  • Basic understanding of HIV/AIDS
  • Numeracy skills
  • Fluency in English and IsiXhosa essential
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Possess good analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to facilitate group face to face and virtual (over the phone) education ssessions
  • Ability and willingness to meet reporting deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, remain calm and have sensible judgment
  • Ability to take direction and learn on the job
  • Ability to multi-task duties and apply practical problem-solving skills as needed
  • Willing and able to uphold m2m values
