Leadership at Cadling Fashions, a 22-year-old African fashion design company, established this foundation to combat high youth unemployment and provide opportunities to vulnerable women.
They have experienced first-hand the difficulties that workers in the tailoring industry are undertaking. Many are women coming from challenging backgrounds that cannot afford housing expenses in the city.
Cadling Fashions has already been providing free housing for up to 20% of their workers to combat these challenges. They see an opportunity to provide solutions to these problems by expanding their housing operations and starting a formal training program in tailoring and embroidery, given they have an expertise in this subject.
They believe these technical skills will provide the less privileged with economic means and the opportunity for the next generation of children to be raised in better circumstances. In 2013, they received a grant from the skills development fund (SDF), which is a program sponsored by COTVET, to facilitate a technical training program for youth, especially young women from vulnerable backgrounds.
