The Renewable Energy, Environment and Solidarity Group ( GERES ) is an international development and solidarity NGO created in 1976 in Marseille .
The Group for the Rational Exploitation of Solar Energy formed an association on September 14 , 1976 , at the initiative of teacher-researchers gathered around Georges Peri. Its aim was to connect researchers with professionals to develop solutions for the use of solar energy.GERES changed its name in 1986 (Renewable Energy Group), in 1994 (Renewable Energy and Environment Group), then in 2008 (Renewable Energy, Environment and Solidarity Group) as the scope of its interventions widened .In 2004, GERES launched CO 2 Solidaire 1 , the first French carbon offsetting platform.
