The Micronutrient Initiative (MI) is dedicated to ensuring that the world's most vulnerable-especially women and children in developing countries-get the vitamins and minerals they need to survive and thrive. Passionate about developing and implementing solutions for hidden hunger, the Micronutrient Initiative works in partnership with governments, the private sector and civil society organizations to address this serious problem that affects one-third of the world´s population. Governed by an international Board of Directors, MI works in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Middle East and reaches people in more than 75 countries. With headquarters in Ottawa, Canada MI maintains regional offices in New Delhi, India and Dakar, Senegal that manage our country offices in Asia and Africa.
What is standing between a person and their potential is access to the essential vitamins and minerals a body needs to grow, learn and thrive.
Hidden hunger – the chronic lack of minerals and vitamins – affects one in three people, with impoverished women and children in developing countries being the most vulnerable.
Today, more than 2 billion people suffer from micronutrient deficiencies and cannot lead healthy, productive lives. Families are devastated, communities and entire nations are impacted.
The Micronutrient Initiative provides affordable and innovative solutions to end micronutrient deficiencies. We bring together technical experts, advocates, analysts, evaluators, educators, resource managers and nutrition champions who can end what is called hidden hunger.
By working with impacted families, communities and nations, we are improving the lives of close to 500 million people in more than 70 countries.
