Established at the birth of the country’s democracy, the Foundation has a long history of innovation in the education sector and is respected as an independent and influential grant-maker. A deep belief in the proven relationship between language proficiency and success in Mathematics and Science is the driver behind the Foundation’s ongoing and significant contributions to improving Mathematics, Science and Language teaching and learning in South African schools.Over the past 20 years, the Zenex Foundation has disbursed more than R700 million in the South African education sector. The impact of this expenditure has been evaluated through extensive research and enquiry, and important lessons have been learnt about how donors can support the improvement of learner performance at school level. The Zenex Foundation has four core programmes around which it carries out work, namely the Systemic Programme, the Schools Programme, the Research and Development Programme and the Sector-Strengthening Programme. The Foundation operates on the basis of strong partnerships with stakeholders, including education departments, donors, service providers, higher education institutions, researchers and schools that share the Foundation’s vision of skilled and empowered young people who can contribute towards the growth and development of South Africa.Vision & Mission The mission of the Zenex Foundation is to contribute to improved education outcomes for historically disadvantaged learners in South Africa, through flexible funding, evidence-based interventions and strategic partnerships.More specifically, our primary goal is the achievement of improved learner performance in Mathematics, Science and Language.
