Capacity Building and Training Coordinator

Background
The overall goal of the South Africa Low Emissions Development Program (SA-LED) is to support the Government of South Africa (GoSA) in its efforts to expand low emissions development, or “green growth” in South Africa.  This will be achieved through two objectives: strengthen public sector-related development planning and project development capacity for low emissions projects, including the mobilization of development finance and private sector participation, and increase public sector core competencies through technical assistance and learning activities in support of the Government of South Africa’s Green Growth initiatives.

SA-LED is seeking a Capacity Building and Training Coordinator who will be responsible for coordinating SA-LED’s capacity building initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the learning and professional development of participants who partake in SA-LED’s capacity building initiatives, assessing the training needs of implementation partners, facilitate and arrange training days, and keeping abreast of overall administrative logistics.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The Capacity Building and Training Coordinator will provide overall training coordination support and technical inputs into the development of training materials.
Specific responsibilities include:

  • Work with SA-LED technical team and GoSA officials in designing and delivering quality capacity building and training programmes to meet the demand and capacity building needs of GoSA.
  • Identify training and development needs of GoSA.
  • Provide technical direction in activity planning for the program’s capacity development strategy.
  • Ensure that each training module includes relevant cross-cutting issues, thus expanding the opportunity to reach participants on topics such as gender, youth empowerment, LED co-benefits etc.
  • Write and submit relevant training reports and consolidated output data to supervisor when requested.
  • Compile lessons learned and material for public dissemination from the project.
  • Contribute to the process of conducting periodic reviews of training programmes to improve LED curriculum and training materials.
  • Research on new training tools, methodologies, skills and emerging fields in LED and incorporate innovative ways of training into SA-LED and other partner training programmes.
  • Contribute to the development of training materials including participant handbooks, reference reading, case studies, scenarios, group exercises and games.
  • Coordinate with training participants during the courses and ensure that all technical requirements are fulfilled.
  • Participate in program monitoring, evaluating, and periodic reporting related to capacity building.
  • Serve as a liaison to partners in the field, including government officials and local organisations.
  • Coordinate with appropriate stakeholders in all aspects of project planning, monitoring, and implementation for all capacity building activities.
  • Keep data of LED training providers and training materials up to date.
  • Maintain training logs, contact lists and training materials.
  • Set up and maintain a coordination system to achieve the best use of capacity building resources within and outside SA-LED.
  • Coordinate and makes travel arrangements for capacity building events.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience and Attributes required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master’s degree considered advantageous).
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in training and capacity building.
  • Experience and capacity to network, develop and establish effective relationships with donors, government departments, partner agencies and NGOs.
  • Excellent inter personal and public relations skills; pleasant personality; team oriented working style; demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Proficiency with activities, theories, methods and technology in the capacity building field, especially in supporting multi-stakeholder processes.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability and the ability to perform and collaborate under challenging conditions.
  • Ability to develop suitable materials for capacity building.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and coordinate capacity building events.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of capacity building techniques.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to changing work demands.
  • Personal commitment to promoting and learning about low emissions development.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deliverables.
  • Good computer skills, particularly in presentations and in the use of relevant software and technologies.
  • Good presentation and communication skills.
  • Good report writing skills.

Duration of Assignment
The Capacity Building and Training Coordinator will be based in the SA-LED Pretoria office. The anticipated duration of the assignment is for the life of the project.

Reporting
The Capacity Building and Training Coordinator will report to the Capacity Building and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist.
