JOB TITLE: IT Consultant (SYSTEM ARCHITECT)

Reporting to: The Digital Resources Unit Manager

  1. Job Description

Aegis Trust plans to develop a digital platform that is going to support the Education for Sustainable Peace in Rwanda (Kigali)

The development of ESPR digital platform has come with a central requirement of revising and expanding existing Aegis IT Infrastructure at two main levels:

Ø End-user computing infrastructure, networks, hosting and digital storage infrastructure;

Ø Systems architecture, integration, compatibility and scalability.

Cost effectiveness, reliability and scalability are at the core of the wished IT Infrastructure. In this regard, the System Architect will have the following duties and key responsibilities:

  1. Duties and Key Responsibilities

Ø Assess current Aegis IT Infrastructure architecture and delivery models

Ø Provide best practices and benchmarks around infrastructure evolutions depending on the AEGIS’s evolutions

Ø Define the IT Infrastructure Strategy Master Plan

Ø Infrastructure Architecture principles for infrastructure evolutions per application types

Ø Target IT Infrastructure Architecture with impact assessment (overall architecture, costs, risks, organizations, service contracts, future expansion and possible return on investment)

Ø Define IT Infrastructure roadmap aligned with overall Business and AEGIS’s roadmaps

Ø Provide adhoc advices on IT infrastructure evolutions as part of Proof of Concepts and of Projects Technical skills.

Ø Providing technical leadership and expert advice for developing a cloud architecture and design for a high performing cross platform application in the private and hybrid Cloud. The architecture will be a reusable for all future internet facing web presence.

Ø Redesign and integrate existing End-User IT Infrastructure

Ø Developing the web security architecture and design including anti-DDOS, Firewalling, Application delivery controllers and Web Application Firewalling

Ø Developing the cloud network integration architecture and design with the on-premise network for management (firewalling) and backend connectivity (web services).

Ø Provide Aegis Trust with a master plan (architectural drawings in printable formats) that clearly shows the new Aegis Trust IT Infrastructure.

  1. Duration

This assignment shall require at least 60 days of consultancy inputs and must be enforced upon agreement by Aegis Trust and the implementer of the project. Should this timeline become insufficient, the two parties will agree accordingly.

  1. Reporting arrangement

Once the implementation has started, the system architect should submit to the client a technical report on monthly basis emphasizing on performed tasks and way forward.

The system architect should also inform on time the client about any big challenges that may delay the delivery of defined deliverables.

  1. Experience and Qualifications
  • A university degree or a Bachelor’s degree in the field of ICT or equivalent
  • More than 10 years of IT infrastructure architecture experience or System Engineer, including Enterprise Architecture approach.
  • Knowledge of project and support methodology (ITIL), MCSE / MCSA / VCP / CEH or similar certifications is a plus
  • Broad knowledge of the IT infrastructure technologies (networks, databases, servers, virtualization, storage…) and IT infrastructure service models (on-premises, off-sites, full cloud, …)
  • Experience with the selection and implementation of Cloud infrastructure solutions
  • Proven results in infrastructure transformation program of similar size
  • Knowledge of the key infrastructure cost drivers
  • Ability to navigate from strategic to technical issues
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Experience in software and system implementation
  • Familiarity of project management principles
  • Experience in VMware technologies
  • Experience in scripting (VBScript, batch files, etc.)
  • Experience with SQL queries and reporting
  • Experience engineering a large Windows desktop/laptop/VDI/Active Directory environment
  • Strong background in Linux/Unix Administration
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services
  • Experience project managing, deploying and supporting large scale O/S migrations and introducing new technology based on business needs and industry standards
  • Solid foundation designing and implementing distributions with WSUS, Active Directory, Configuration Manager for the full lifecycle with diagrams, workflow Visio’s, support documentation and training, presentations, etc.
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
  • Emphasis on sharing of knowledge through good communications, peer training and written documentation
  • Languages: Must be fluent in Kinyarwanda and English. Any other national language is an asset.
