Key Areas of Accountability

  • Capture all data accurately and on a weekly basis on the FMS. Initiate source documents and journals for entry into the FMS.
  • Reconcile all bank and petty cash accounts on a weekly basis.
  • Maintain a proper filing and record system and ensure that filing is up to date weekly.
  • Prepare monthly reports for the Centre.
  • Prepare and check that all payment requests are in order with the correct calculations, signatures, correct coding and sufficient supporting documentation.
  • Accurately and timeously process all payments on Business on Line and by transfer letters to the bank when necessary.
  • Arrange debit orders and stop orders where necessary.
  • Ensure that staff salaries, PAYE, UIF, SDL and all other statutory returns are paid by the deadline.
  • Assist with budget preparation and capture budgets onto the FMS.
  • Prepare for and facilitate any audits that are undertaken and assist with auditors’ queries.
  • Assist the regional financial manager with various tasks including preparing reports for staff, donors and the Centre.
  • Ensure all stationary required (various forms) is readily available and updated as and when needed.
  • Provide training and support to staff on completion of forms and coding.
  • Any other duties as may be directed by the line manager including the preparation of donor reports, orientation of staff on good accounting practices as and when required.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Diploma/Degree in Accounting or Business Studies
  • 5 years or more in a similar role and in an INGO/NGO
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel/Word
  • Financial Analytical Skills
  • Attention to detail with a high level of initiative
  • ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

1977 A number of Save the Children organisations formed an alliance to coordinate campaigning work to improve outcomes for the world’s children, sowing the seeds for Save the Children as a single global movement for children

1989 The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

194 countries have signed up to this legally binding convention
